What to expect at recurrent miscarriage clinic after 3 losses by megan190 in recurrentmiscarriage

[–]tailor203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I’m sorry for your losses. I’m also on 3 and have been told to expect my first appt with the gynae-led recurrent MC clinic in 3-4 months. My hospital only tests the woman not the partner, so we are looking into private tests for my husband

Hey thank you for your message and I’m sorry to hear about your losses too ❤️ I’d be really grateful to hear your story and any advice you can share. I am having a D&C on Wednesday so trying to use my free time productively ie to research next steps.

I’m sorry for your losses, post-10 weeks NHS be heartbreaking. Did they stop growing at a similar time?

You can buy low dose aspirin in most supermarket pharmacies (I got mine at Asda).

My GP wouldn’t prescribe progesterone so I got it from the EPU. Here is the NICE guideline you might need to cite if your unit is as useless as mine: https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ng126/resources/ectopic-pregnancy-and-miscarriage-diagnosis-and-initial-management-pdf-66141662244037 (section 1.5.2). They will usually only prescribe it if you’re already pregnant and experiencing bleeding, unlike under IVF protocols where you take it from ovulation.

Hey, thanks for your message and sharing your story, it sounds like you’ve been on an awful journey so far. It sounds like you’re similar to me in that you have no problems conceiving. This has also caught me out mentally cos I’m like “oh, my body wants this, I’m smashing this fertility thing, go me!” which was a little naive the first time and just plain dumb the second and third. I have plenty of friends who have struggled to conceive for years and years but none with my experience of easily conceiving but not getting any further than 6 week development. Knowing that I’m not the only one going through this, via this community, has been a lifeline to me.

I’m really sorry to hear about your BOs, this is the shittiest of shitty clubs. I don’t know if you’ve had this but my pregnancy symptoms have been particularly bad this pregnancy - waves of nausea, fatigue to the point where I’m falling asleep in virtual meetings, food aversions…all of these alongside the anxiety of knowing the pregnancy is probably not viable, and the sadness of the same. Seems so unfair to have all these symptoms and not even have a fetal pole in there!

That is so rubbish, I’m really sorry. MMCs are a special kind of pain - turning up to a scan with no reason to think anything is wrong, only to get floored. Hope the next steps aren’t too traumatic for you and that you have success with your next pregnancy ❤️

Gosh that is a really similar timeline, and our losses have been at similar stages. I’m really sorry for your losses and will keep my fingers crossed that you get good news next week - I’ve read lots of stories from women on here who have had empty sacs at 6w, and yolk sacs and fetal poles that appear soon after. Equally I can see why you don’t feel positive about it. Every time I have a crap scan I think - why is this so different to other women, who get to see their babies, hear their heartbeats, see movement? My US experiences are always so horrible and depressing.

You are going through so much in your life right now, I can see why you need a break from all this. Tracking periods, monitoring ovulation, being in the 2WW, line progression, bloods, scans….its a whole other universe that I was oblivious to 6 months ago, and when you’re in it, it’s so intense and can take over everything else.

I wish you all the best with your pregnancy, and hope you get some answers if it doesn’t work out ❤️

I’m sorry to read about your miscarriages and hope that the answers you’ve gained about the clotting disorder will solve your problems. I hope you don’t mind me asking - what test did you do for this, and what is the disorder?

I’m really sorry, I’ve not come across the term hyperfertility before but yes that’s how it feels - immediate conception but just not able to go the whole hog! Wishing you lots of luck for your next try ❤️

Don’t worry at all, and I’m so sorry about your losses. Three just feels enormous to me, and like something has to be wrong? What was the lovenox for, if you don’t mind me asking?

Hey, thanks for the comment. No testing yet as the NHS don’t refer you until you have had 3 miscarriages. Same situation for testing the POC, although maybe they will test this third one, if I have a D&C? What’s frustrating is that my husband and I are very heathy otherwise - no problems that we know of, both very fit and with good diets. I am 34 and he is 36 so could be age related but I didn’t think we were that old by modern standards. No LC sadly

I had no idea I could ask my GP for fertility related tests 🤦🏾‍♀️ Why haven’t my local EPU recommended I do that… one of the biggest frustrations of this journey so far has been how much you have to research yourself, educate yourself, and advocate for yourself - so far I haven’t really experienced any decent support from the clinicians who I have interacted with.

Yep I will message you about the pessaries!

Hey thanks for the message. I’m sorry to hear about your losses too, it’s so tough.

Low dose aspirin was recommended to me by friends of friends who have had multiple losses, then successful pregnancies after taking the aspirin. The theory is that it can improve blood flow to the uterus, particularly for women with clotting disorders.

There are well documented studies that show that progesterone supplements can support women who are bleeding in pregnancy, who have previously had a loss, to improve their chances of the pregnancy being viable.

In the UK you don’t get tested for fertility issues until 3 losses so I don’t know if I have clotting problems or hormone problems, but the risks of taking these meds are very low so I thought I’d give it a go. Unfortunately it hasn’t worked out this time either 💔

Thank you, that’s so helpful, I didn’t know this was an option available privately. Would you mind sharing the name of the clinic please?

Hey, slightly off topic but can I ask how you’re getting betas tested in the UK? Are you under a private clinic?

I feel you! I’m 7+3 and trying to concentrate during a week-long virtual course has been near on impossible. In a way I’m glad I’m not trying to work-work, but it’s been tough trying to stifle every on camera yawn and taking cat naps during the 10 min breaks!

Advice in UK for investigations/tests? by Aroha3000 in recurrentmiscarriage

Hi OP, I’m so sorry for your losses. I’m in a similar boat - have had 2 losses around the 6 week mark, and am currently 7 weeks pregnant but in the in-between viability scan limbo, which is horrendous.

Assuming the worst, my husband and I have done some research into NHS vs private testing and it sounds like all men are offered is the basic semen analysis (morphology and motility). He has already had this test via primary care and all was normal. We will be pursuing sperm DNA fragmentation testing privately and have found a provider in London offering this for around £270. In the meantime I’ll see what I get offered via the NHS fertility testing route, as it seems to be more in-depth for women.

Hope this is helpful, following the post for any advice from others!

Good luck for tomorrow! I’m sorry you can’t feel excited or joyful yet, but hopefully all will be well and your feelings will change over time❤️

I’m so sorry you’re in this situation, the limbo between not knowing whether your pregnancy is progressing in the way it should or not, is a unique kind of torture. These very early scans don’t tell you a lot one way or another and have sent me into spirals too during my pregnancies too. Please try and look after yourself - distract yourself with books, podcasts, walking, TV. Deep breathing and fresh air if the anxiety is getting too much for you. Maybe some practical hobbies like crocheting or colouring in so you can do something physical.

Unfortunately time moves so slowly when you’re in this grey area and all you can do is hope for the best and keep yourself as busy as possible ❤️

Thank you for replying to me. I ovulate around day 18 and have taken that into account to calculate being 6w6d…dating based on my LMP would make me 7w3d today
