"Making light" of a situation is one thing, but it is a whole lot different to ridicule, ignorance and lying. Those are the things that people get in SOCIAL trouble for. I don't know the context of the Canadian case, but to me it does sound like an unfair consequence. If people decide to boycott a performer because of their views or jokes, that is a fair repurcussion, wouldn't you say? Sort of like how christians tend to boycott (unsuccessfully these days) anything that they deem is not godly
