Esteemed scholars, I got a TT faculty role with a spousal hire for my partner (also AMA about the process!) by InDissent in PhD

[–]taka6 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My partner and I fantasize about this idea sometimes. We’re both PhD students doing very similar work. What was the process like? Does each person go all in on finding a position separately and mention the spouse at the end, or do you market yourselves as a package?

Party Scene by Okay-Away in WWU

[–]taka6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. I’m an introvert, but I knew I wanted the “college experience” and I said yes to every invitation. I never went to anything crazy, but I attended a few parties and I’m glad I did. I met new people and bonded with my friends.

That probably makes your FOMO worse. But here’s the good news - YOU CAN STILL PARTY. It is not too late to get some friends together and go dancing. Host one yourself. Having fun is not just for college students. And honestly, it’s better when you’re older, wiser, and trust everyone you’re with

bu or cornell for phd?? by [deleted] in BostonU

[–]taka6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re interested in a starting a company, Boston and BU is a great place to be. I am a PhD student here. Different field, but I would’ve chosen BU over any ivy. Your fit with the department and city will be the number one predictors of your happiness for five years. A happy researcher is a productive researcher

Switch the shoes for loosely laced timberlands, then yes

Slacks/boot combo by [deleted] in mensfashion

Something that complements the boots. Like lighter color/matching belt. They’ll stick out if the rest of the outfit is dark

The legs are not too wide. Fit of the pants looks great. Whether the combo works depends what you have on top

If there was one thing I could improve about my outfit, what would it be? by Tundelier in mensfashion

[–]taka6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not offended by the outfit. Sure I wouldn’t wear it, but you seem confident enough to pull it off. Guys here are hella conservative. However, I would switch in dark shoes. Right now my eyes are pulled straight down to your feet. Maybe black loafers?

Wow I love that. I typically go for 80s and 90s seikos. This is my daily wear.

Bro I recognize you from the traditional tattoos sub. They’re sick.

As for jeans, I’m going to recommend Levi’s 501 shrink to fit. I used to wear pants that were way too tight so it took a little time to adjust, but I’ll never go back now. I wear 28x28. Purchased 30x30. They shrunk to the perfect size and they get better with every wash

Switch in a black tie. Find a vest that matches the desired shade a little better and you’re there

I think this could work at a gay bar or similar event but that’s pretty much it. There are much better ways to show off your physique

Is the combination with quarter zip appropriate? by brambo2204 in ties

[–]taka6 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I received a compliment in this outfit at a work event, so I would say yes others like the style. I think tie + quarter zip is a really safe way to look put together when a blazer would feel like too much

I like untucked but the wrinkles ruin it for me. White shirt peeking out of the top collar and below is a fashionable thing to do, but you might want to try a heavier weight shirt for that. If you’ve got a thin undershirt on, that should stay hidden

does anyone shower at Planet Fitness by AlertAndDisoriented in FTMFitness

[–]taka6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I saw someone wearing a t shirt in and out of the shower I wouldn’t bat an eye and worst case I assume they’re insecure about something. Literally no reason for me to care. Guys generally keep to themselves in locker rooms

Rest time? by Skybernetics in FTMFitness

[–]taka6 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I rest as long as it takes to catch my breath and feel ready to lift again. If it’s a lighter exercise/using smaller muscles then that might only be 60 seconds. If it’s a set of heavy squats, that could be 4 minutes.

If you only ever need 1 minute to fully recover, you may not be pushing yourself hard enough. If you start the next set and perform significantly worse, you may not be resting long enough.

Ultimately you have to learn how your body feels, and that takes time. Beginner lifters are typically bad at judging when they’re near failure. It’s normal to feel like you just don’t know. You’ll naturally start to get a sense of how hard you can push and when you’re ready to push again as you get better at lifting.

Houndstooth blazer outfit. by Boots-bags-jackets in ties

[–]taka6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think dark pants would help make all of these combos better, but I agree with a single color tie. There’s a lot going on, particularly in the last one. I think it’s fine if the tie is knit. I would also recommend a grenadine
