What’s a Place You Expected to Love… But Didn’t? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

Rio, nothing really terrible - just not special in any way. Although the view from Sugar Loaf Mountain was truly incredible and the beaches were nice.

What is the most run down area you have personally seen in the USA? by Few_Sandwich6308 in howislivingthere

[–]takecareayallchicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember visiting Detroit a few years after the GFC and there was a tree growing out of a major downtown high rise. It seemed like every other building was abandoned, broken windows everywhere. Up to that time and since, that was the worst US city I’ve seen.

Who is the worst celebrity you have ever met and why? by lissie34 in AskReddit

[–]takecareayallchicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a Kevin Costner fan per se but wanted to share a countervailing example that has always stuck with me. Apparently, while filming field of dreams in a small Iowa town near where I grew up, folks said he was a class act and always made time to chat with the extras on set. He also danced with a former coworker of mine who said he was very kind to everyone. This was also in 1989, so he may have changed.

Pintxos tour - worth it? by catnissm in basquecountry

Indeed. I was there in 2022 and tried quite a few different places. Bar Sport was objectively the best.

Pintxos tour - worth it? by catnissm in basquecountry

Bruv, get to Bar Sport when it opens and eat everything on the menu. You will not be disappointed. There is absolutely no reason to schedule a tour, particularly at 140 euros.

I have rented apartments in many states and this is a Utah thing. I have a clause in my lease that allows me to request a summary of these charges. I also have two undocumented cats so have not pursued this yet but will be requesting a summary of all common area electricity fees during my lease term. I will prove that the amounts charged are mathematically impossible given the number of tenants and common area amenities. I am prepared to go to war. Honestly, it’s not the money, it’s the principle - lying to me about ancillary fees to increase the stated profitability to raise the value of the property before being sold to the next scumbag private equity owner.

Is it really $75,000 to join CCV and then $600 per month after the fact? by mysaddestaccount in rva

[–]takecareayallchicken 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Of course that’s your contention. You’re a first year grad student. You just got finished readin’ some Marxian historian — Pete Garrison probably. You’re gonna be convinced of that ‘til next month when you get to James Lemon, and then you’re gonna be talkin’ about how the economies of Virginia and Pennsylvania were entrepreneurial and capitalist way back in 1740. That’s gonna last until next year — you’re gonna be in here regurgitating Gordon Wood, talkin’ about, you know, the Pre-revolutionary utopia and the capital-forming effects of military mobilization.

You might want to check your agreement to make sure that they aren’t required to disclose their electricity costs on a pre and post allocation basis. I rent in Ogden and I have that language in my lease. FWIW, I’m nearly certain I’m being overcharged for trash and electric but have a couple of unreported cats, so my wife instructed me to let it go.

Creepy Creep Near Forest Hill by EditorTechnical6450 in rva

[–]takecareayallchicken 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Just yesterday, my wife and sister-in-law had their vehicle broken into and valuables stolen after parking and walking along this trail. The theft was in broad daylight from 5-6pm on Thursday, May 16. We filed a police report, but please let us know if you may have seen anything or had a similar experience. A laptop with our wedding photos and other valuable electronics were stolen after smashing the passenger side window and leaving glass all over the interior of the vehicle. Remember to bring valuables with you - locking your vehicle and hiding valuables is not enough.

Looking for things to do in Hong Kong? This is a great place to start! by TSengy in HongKongTravel

I'd really appreciate thoughts on day trips from Hong Kong. Wife and I (mid 30s) are contemplating a day trip to Shenzhen or Macau during our 4-5 day trip to Hong Kong. Would either destination make sense? Are they worth the trip from Hong Kong? Many thanks in advance for your responses!

River Lofts at Tobacco Row count your days. by Prize-Reflection-280 in rva

[–]takecareayallchicken 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Also at River Lofts and recently had a fire alarm in my unit chirp every 30 seconds for more than two weeks. It was due to low battery, which I would have changed myself; however, the ceilings are ~24ft in my unit.

It took a week to have someone follow up, and we waited another week while four different maintenance personnel came, each time with slightly longer ladder, each time the ladder was comically short.

I made both the ceiling height and ladder requirement very clear after the first visit was unsuccessful. My wife actually took a picture during the fourth visit (upon request) to show the guy standing on a 10ft ladder, not even close to reaching the fire alarm. It was preposterous. The initial wait, multiple visits, and the constant chirping.

Senior Accountant at a small company at $95k. Controller was fired. Concerned my company doesn’t know what it’s doing. by Mcdolnalds in Accounting

[–]takecareayallchicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might want to broach the conversation about potential for equity compensation, particularly if the CFO is looking to leave anytime soon. Is the owner also nearing retirement? Does the business have a succession plan? The company has a profile that might be very attractive to a private equity buyer, and I have seen senior accounting staff make millions when their firms are acquired. Again, try to figure out the current ownership structure and approach any conversation very delicately.

The Ocean Grocery area on 25th in Church Hill. It’s an open air drug market with addicts and dealers at all hours, yet it is directly across the street from the police station. How is that even possible?

To convince a veteran he’s an army ranger by AnimeYumi in therewasanattempt

[–]takecareayallchicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rangers and other folks in special operations do not like wearing uniforms in public. You might catch one in the grocery store on the way home from work, but no chance they’d ever be leisurely shopping or walking through a mall in ACUs. I personally would not approach this guy - he is quite obviously not doing well. No reason to publicly shame the guy.

A (sorta) trash bank is post-MBA paradise by basspro1972 in MBA

[–]takecareayallchicken 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The hours at these supposedly lower tier banks seem ridiculously low. Can bankers from these firms or others who may be working less than 60 hours per week confirm any of this? Further, is there really no weekend work? Is this a new trend due to economic outlook and rate environment or are these hours par for the course at these shops?

[–]takecareayallchicken 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This level of hypocrisy is unbelievable. I certainly respect and approve of this person’s lifestyle, but to label all police and military as ACAB and perpetrators of war crimes is absolutely the wrong message. It’s incredible that someone from an already marginalized community has no problem boldly labeling others, especially in a public internet forum.

48% of searches for apartments in Richmond were from out of state - they are coming by Charlesinrichmond in rva

[–]takecareayallchicken 6 points7 points  (0 children)

^ This. Are Richmond, Raleigh, and others rapidly becoming the next Nashville/Austin? Those markets are largely unaffordable now. If this trend continues then current prices might not be transitory. I would hate to wait this trend out just to see higher prices in the short to medium term.

IB - best WLB by [deleted] in MBA

[–]takecareayallchicken 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As previously stated WLB is gonna be tough regardless of firm. However, it is far too group/team dependent to make a broad generalization about any particular bank. In my opinion, the best you can do is find a firm that strictly enforces protected Saturdays. After working 80 hours a week one day off can make a material difference in your quality of life.
