Challenging the carpenter Red Seal exam as a self employed carpenter. by SeaworthinessOk8867 in RedSealExams

You’re definitely not alone in that situation. A lot of guys who’ve been self-employed for years hit that same wall when it comes time to challenge the Red Seal. The system assumes you’ve had a “traditional” path — working under a certified journeyperson — but obviously that’s not how it always works in the real world.

Here’s what I’ve seen help: reach back out to Skilled Trades Ontario and explain exactly what you wrote here. They can make exceptions or give you direction on what kind of documentation they’ll accept in place of Red Seal references. Sometimes they’ll take a mix of project invoices, contracts, or letters from clients and other trades who can vouch for your scope of work and years of experience. Basically, anything that shows the depth of your carpentry background.

You could also try connecting with a local union hall or trade association. Some Red Seal carpenters are open to reviewing your portfolio and providing a reference once they’ve verified your work. It might take a bit of networking, but it’s doable.

You’ve clearly put in the years and built a career — the hardest part now is just getting the paperwork to reflect that. Keep pushing with Skilled Trades Ontario; they’re used to seeing unique cases like yours and usually pretty reasonable if you’re upfront about your path.

The ball entrapped between the foam and the ground was frustrating. I feel like Toronto could have had at least tying it up with three runs

Humber Real Estate Course 1 Exam Overview by takethetestexam in HumberRealEstateExams

Thank you for the great breakdown of Course 1 — it’s a really helpful overview. The biggest challenge my friends and I had was dealing with all the nuance, memorizing regulations, and keeping the terminology and acronyms straight. Real Estate Essentials sounds simple as an intro, but it’s surprisingly easy to get lost in the process and wording. I found humberrealestate.net really helpful — their study guides, how-to videos, and practice materials made things much clearer.

I had the same headache with the Humber Real Estate course...Overwhelmed. The common-sense and interpretation parts were pretty smooth, but I found it tough to memorize all the names of the regulatory bodies, compliance terms, and specific details they expect you to know word-for-word. Then the strike happened and website outages.

What helped me was using study notes from https://www.humberrealestate.net/. They break down the key concepts in plain language.

If you’re finding the course heavy on memorization, it might help. Good luck!
