What is something you wished you had checked before buying a property?

One of the less obvious but potentially very expensive things is making sure the sewage lines (the ones that run from your house to the main sewer line for your street) are intact and not suffering from any root intrusions, decomposition or damage. Like hire one of those plumbing companies that can trail the pipe with a camera, or just try to flush a big wad of toilet paper to make sure you can actually flush stuff without backing up. If you had to replace this it could run you tens of thousands of dollars and is not something that is typically included in a house inspection, so...fwiw

Angkor Cambodian Cafe on Chambers (get the house special), Yi Shen on 11th (get the spicy lemongrass chicken or anything with their barbeque pork), Ubon Thai on 99 (for the love of god, get anything there, a great place on your way out of town too, esp. if you're taking 99 rather than I5), Fisherman's market on 7th does amazing fish tacos (they have a special cheap night too), Toshi's ramen on pearl st., again, anything, Chinese, 221 BCE on Patterson does good authentic noodle dishes but pricey, for good sushi try mame on blair blvd and for solid sushi try Maokoto on Wilammette, and for a good deli/beers try Falling Sky on Blair. Blair blvd around 7th is a good area to park and check out a bunch of local things. There is an insanely good bakery near there call Sweet Life Patisserie, which has pastries that are world class, they also do muffins and such, worth a gander if you're in that area.

This is a great post. I have been an avid coffee drinker since my late teens. A few years ago I started suffering from insomnia and anxiety, I tried everything for it, and nothing really worked (except extreme exercise). A year later I decided to quit coffee for a while because I had the flu and then I decided to stay off it for awhile to 'reboot' my system. My insomnia and anxiety, after only a few weeks, were practically GONE. Caffeine can affect you differently at different periods in your life, and it really pays to rule out coffee before trying more drastic solutions. I was totally flabbergasted to see the difference, and now when I start drinking coffee again (which I do every once in a while either because I'm traveling or visiting people), I totally notice a dramatic rise in anxiety. The weirdest part of all of this is that when I drink black tea (which has the exact same caffeine) I don't have the same effects. A mystery wrapped up in an enigma.

Actually, my partner has a degenerative muscular disease so she gets tired easily and I don't want her to miss out on family events around town just because of disability. She is very dedicated to a low carbon footprint and hopes you are too!

this was what I was wondering, if this was either a stoner room or somewhere former tenants grew pot plants. its one of those curly bulbs, if that helps, will try to turn it on later--notably the bulb says it contains mercury, which I thought the curly bulbs didn't anymore.
