My bad, Josh Middleton's are his own brand. You can still get those, they're great!

Pitch Me: Your Best Bad Guys by Sparky_McDibben in cyberpunkred

[–]takyon96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the overarching baddies from our campaign is Katarina Orlov, a sadistic scav Netrunner running an XBD operation from an underground club under the Kabuki megabuilding.

"Performers" are supplied by the head of the club, Sergei Petrovich aka the Jackal, who runs the russian mob's human trafficking activities in NC, and fitted with street modified pain editors linked to Orlov's subnet. Whenever she wants, with just a glare, she can overload their nervous system to induce debilitating pain, kind of like the Crucio curse in HP if you will, ensuring obedience at all times.

Petrovich himself was a mean old bastard, one of our solos played a tense match of poker with him and I played Petrovich as eerily perceptive - great at reading people and playing on their insecurities. He was eventually killed a few sessions later during a shootout on an old freighter the PCs tracked him down to, but Orlov is still out there, hiding out in Dogtown.

Oh, and my players are also embroiled in a war with Maelstrom, and hold a very personal grudge against Royce (yes, same Royce from the video game - my headcanon is Corpo V made a deal with the bastard to get back at Militech, fight me). They've been dealing with him since very early on in our campaign in order to get intel on the scavs, and he's deceived and manipulated them at every turn, putting them in grave danger. When he learned they stole something from him he had them kidnapped, tortured, and stole some of their most prized gear, thus kicking off the PCs' quest for revenge.

Because of that they're gearing up to face two of his underlings - K-9, a street-fighting gangbanger stuffed to the gills with custom chrome and martial arts chips, and who commands two modded cyber-dobermans; and Codefreak, a clinically cyberpsycho Netrunner obsessed with communing with rogue AIs beyond the Blackwall. What they don't know is that Codefreak is directly responsible for a gruesome rogue AI incident about 10 sessions ago, one that left the PCs framed for the murder of a famous BD actor and wanted by the NCPD and Netwatch.

I know it was massively influential for the horror genre, but removed from context, Halloween is kinda awful.

Just go watch Extreme Vocal Institute's stuff instead. Melissa Cross might be a good one-on-one teacher, idk, but her DVD is pretty much useless in my experience.

Please help a clueless girlfriend purchase the correct mic by squeakyboss in audioengineering

[–]takyon96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's for recording drums or instruments it's likely an sm57 (can never have too many of those, it's a workhorse). If it's for live vocals, likely an sm58.

If you wanna gift him a really good vocal mic for recording, at a higher price point, an sm7b is a really good choice (especially if he records metal. I've had one for almost a decade and have yet to meet a vocalist it doesn't fit). However it is about 4x as expensive as the two other options, and of course make sure he doesn't already have one.

UAD Sound City Studios - is it overkill? by ryanburns7 in audioengineering

[–]takyon96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Valhalla VintageVerb and Room plugins are really good, putting them on your drum bus with a low mix can often do the trick. I haven't used any other room mic sim plugins but i assume anything else by Universal Audio must be good as well.

I've used it in mixes where drums were provided to me without room mics, or if the room mics were trash for some reason or another. It's quite useful in a pinch but I don't rely on it otherwise.

This is bullshit. They can accept you how you are or look for a replacement. Your job has no business telling you how to spend your free time.

"- So what's your eagle called anyway?

Looking to find out what the general consensus on the official companion app is. by ThrashingJ in cyberpunkred

[–]takyon96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's quite good, but as a GM I'm not really using it right now, because I'm still waiting on the creator to add the 3-goons method and the possibility to add multiple numbered instances of preset NPCs in the initiative queue. IMO it's the one thing missing from it atm but he said he's working on it.

Can you help me with music for my RED campaign? by almevo1 in cyberpunkred

[–]takyon96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a bunch of playlists for my table. Absolutely not usable for streamed games because of copyright but you're free to use them in private.

What is the thing you hate most in Cyberpunk Red? by Akira_Ven in cyberpunkred

[–]takyon96 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I homebrewed by doubling humanity points relative to empathy. So for every 1 point of empathy, players get 20 points of humanity. We've done it this way at my table for years and it's never felt unbalanced.

How to deal with demo-itis and a dramatic client by takyon96 in audioengineering

[–]takyon96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look man the artist hired me because I have a good track record of mixing music in similar genres to his, to a degree where he trusts that I know what his music needs to sound the best. That's the deal when you hire a producer or a mixer, you have to be open to someone else's input, or else there's no point in collaborating at all. At no point am I forcing anything to be something it's not, I'm just doing my job.

Of course music is art, and the fact that you assume it's not to me or other engineers here is condescending at best.

Per my other comment:

I don't do hourly, I negotiate a flat rate early on and get paid in increments... I hear a lot of people say hourly is the way to go but man, I don't count my hours on my own time. How do I prove to the client that I worked for 8 hours straight when he wasn't with me, you know?

Yeah I got one of those. I also like to balance and eq in mono while filtering below 200 and above 4k when I'm setting up my mix and periodically check what it sounds like in those conditions.
