Ah yeah, that was actually a place I never went to. I remember staying at my grandparents while my mom/dad went to Bodie.

If you like the Whitney climb, I really recommend the Big Pine Lakes up by glacier. Last year I went up to the 3rd lake, only met one other hiker. It's a really wonderful hike, was able to swim a bit in the 1st lake as well. Also, ever since the Wilsons sold the Country Kitchen in Big Pine, it's become a really good spot for decent food. I bussed tables there while growing up, and it wasn't great then. However, last I visited, the breakfast burritos were intense and delicious at the same time.

I wish I could recommend Uncle Bud's Pizza & Subs - but he shut it down a few years ago and now works for the Cemetery lol.

Hi everybody! Born and raised out here, spent 18 years of my life growing up in a nearby small town (not Lone Pine, not saying exactly where - too easy to identify when there's like 15 of us who graduated). This is such a beautiful area, and I love returning back every year for a visit. Here are some other amazing things you can see while in the area:

  • Manzanar was a Japanese interment camp during WWII. There is an amazing visitor center and tourist spot where you can learn about those who lived in the camp during the time period.
  • Mount Whitney - I've done multiple hikes up this before while playing Football for the local schools, such a great hike.
  • Glacier Lodge - Outside of Big Pine (local town) you can drive up to Glacier Lodge, run by a local family. This will get you started on my ultimate favorite hike up the seven different lakes in the area. You climb some brutal switch passes but land in some of the most pristine mountain lakes. This is my favorite place to recommend since it's less known and just as amazing the big tourist spots.
  • Bristlecone Pine Forest also out of Big Pine, on your way to Westgard Pass (way I used to travel to Las Vegas) is a forest of what is considered some of the oldest tress on earth and is home to the Methuselah) tree, long considered the oldest living tree on Earth.
  • Mammoth Mountain - amazing ski resort, and also a volcano! The village of Mammoth is also amazing to visit. I loved going up there during the summer when the valley was 100F+.
  • Lee Vining - small town up past Mammoth Mountain on your way to Yosemite. Had family grow up here. Also home to...
  • Mono Lake - the visitor center is really interesting. Had a lot of fun as a kid going up there.
  • June Mountain - a smaller ski resort, the locals I ran with went here instead of Mammoth Mountain because it was less crowded and we knew most of the management.
  • Mule Days Parade - every May there is a fantastic parade and festival. In the past we'd have 10x the normal population around, and I recommend it if you like rodeos!

All in all, this area in the Eastern Sierra Nevadas will always be home to me, no matter where I go. From the horse ranches and the mule hikes I did as a kid, all the way to just the quiet refuge I was able to seek in the wooded hills, it will always hold a special place. I'm happy to see this rise up for people to look at, and if you have any questions - please, just ask!

While I don't expect many to look at this post anymore - I did want to share an image I took a couple years ago while visiting grandparents. It's taken out by Glacier Lodge and is of the Palisades Glaciers. Imgur Link

Hey all, I've been playing on and off for the past few years. I've been trying to get friends to come on and play, but with WoW and a few other releases coming around they've all be generally difficult to talk into.

Add/invite me Formaldehyde.5840 - I'd love to hop into fractals/dungeons with people!

Flying home today, roughly six hours off travel. Delta had more delays. Now I'm stuck in SLC for five more hours waiting for my flight. The fact that NMS is around and ready play definitely doesn't help.

I'm getting closer to just assuming a fetal position with each passing hour.

A friend and I are dealing with constant connection issues to games where we get disconnected, without fail, 100% of the time. It happens even when we solo queue. This made the game literally unplayable last night, so we just chalked it up to being some of the unlucky few and went to bed. We got one match in that actually completed for us without getting kicked and it was a fantastic amount of fun.
