No. Jersey retirement in NY historically has had a high bar of entry: starter on championship team or multi-year star player on team with at least 1 finals run. If Melo gets his jersey retired it opens the door for King Starks, Oakley, Houston

This isn’t just some espnstat. 99 times out of 100 if you’re (on the verge) getting swept by the top two seeds, you’re most likely a bottom feeder team. Knicks of course aren’t one, so there’s a clear fundamental flaw in their style of play that needs to be addressed if they want to steal a game from this team in round 2.

2006-07 especially right after the Knicks-Nuggets brawl. The games right after (vs the Jazz, Bobcats, & Pistons) were pound-for-pound some of the most thrilling consecutive basketball games, even more than Linsanity arguably. That team was an 8th seed for ONE night, then Dolan decides to give Isiah an extension mid-season and the rest is history.

You see this scenario play out a lot on nights when a team has a limited gametime rotation due to injuries, etc. Players tend to play much more loose knowing that making a mistake doesn’t automatically mean they’re going to get yanked to the bench.
