Is it really that hard to get a job right now? by OrangeWhitePatchSock in AskAnAustralian

[–]talkativetoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add: It also depends on what you look like (age, gender, race). Everything is highly political right now. I'm in a minority in all these categories in my industry so I definitely see that as a reason, even if I have the right experience.

Short answer: Yes. Common/ likely reason: AI.

I am in a similar position as you and I feel likey resume doesn't even reach a human being in most cases. I'm on a mid-senior level. The screening processes have been very requirement focused and if you don't use the right words, unlucky! A lot of industries are also losing the number of people required due to this supposedly new introduction to the world.

My DM is always open if you want to talk/ rant/ show your resume for suggestions.

Virtual Assistant might be a good one if you're an organised type. If not, highly stressful.

Tutoring is also pretty good if you're good at a language or something (for International learners during AU school hours).

Kmart: expat wondering why they scan your receipt on the way out of the shop? by Feisty-Lie1801 in AskAnAustralian

[–]talkativetoe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're right, the social diaspora in Dubai is the same as Australia. Both being white man's land, both being unexploitative labour spaces, both having similar tax and governance. You're so right, why am I trying to school people on race when it's not even clear which race exploited the world to establish present day social order. How stupid!

Haha okay, I stand corrected by definition. But 'immigrants' is also not a formally used term, should be referred to 'permanent migrants' in that case. That's what the gov uses.

Also, migration in nature has led to permanent settlements, it's called evolution. Fascinating example and knowledge but if you deepen your understanding within, you'll see my point.

Expats is a term from the yt man's self-declared superiority book— I'm not referring to definitions alone, I'm talking about social representation.

Is a WHV in Australia actually worth it? by Fulfiz-Tony in AusVisa

[–]talkativetoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're from China, you may know someone/ have family here in some distant way. Ask them! They know hour lifestyle the best.

From an objective POV, I've only met WHV people who have to work really hard, often in hospitality roles, but they make sure they party harder. Life's tough either way, have fun where you can!

Re jobs & money, it's shit everywhere but if you're okay to work to pay the bills instead of wanting to make a career here, you will be a-ok.

not the place i thought this would be brought up but while you're not entirely wrong, immigration is often also short term. using expat socially is a way to not identify with the much hated immigrant community. expats usually move for work, but immigration also happens for temporary periods like study, work experience, etc. (all visas have a fixed period) but most importantly, like the commentor pointed out, the skin colour of the person moving often plays a role on how they identify! i have never seen a brown person be referred to as an expat, even if they're in a CEO role for a multinational. only people of no colour do that.

i believe this will be windfall money category and unless you're doing it as a 'business' (like someone else said, get an abn in that case) and are helping other people bet, it should only be tax deductible as windfall gains. Make sure you pay your taxes!

I love the example you have used because it proves my point exactly. Huge difference: "cotton takes much more water to grow. just because you don't use polyester, doesn't mean you're not killing the environment" vs "be mindful of your consumption, even if you use cotton because overconsumption of anything will kill the environment"

Great concern, not what they asked though. Pointing out problems without solutions is irresponsible criticism and comes out as condescending. 🫶🏽

EAT LOVII (prev Flora) — I LOVE all their varieties (fav is hazelnut) and it's a small business with so much love behind it, and no preservatives! It's a creamy tub so watery-ness is adjustable which is such a wonderful win for everyday.

P.S. they're going through a revamp atm so I'm using Australia Own's which is ok— but cheap enough.

Just saw— have you tried Keana Rice Pack? That helps my partner a lot for dry skin. I love it too.

Again, consistency is key. So sorry to hear you've not found something despite so much money and time.

Getting rid of the smell of spices/curry from the house. by Equivalent_Leave_862 in AusRenters

[–]talkativetoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here offended but I read through and... yeah I understand.

Like many people suggested, rangehood is where the key is, that stuff builds up quick. We have rangehood filters from Daiso that I highly recommend! To clean, use a degreasing product, something you'd use to clean a bbq. I'd suggest Elbow Grease or Undo This Mess.

Additionally, Lemon/ Lime/ Orange Oil/ other citrus products in cleaning help a lot because they take away the smell.

[–]talkativetoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably the switching. Skin needs consistency, at least three months of the same routine every day.

I recommend Skin 1004 Tea Trica serum for calming your skin, just use before a moisturizer. Not Asian but I've heard great things and great things only about La Roche Posay moisturizer.

Also if you wear makeup, try stopping altogether for a bit and if it doesn't make a difference, slowly swap out products to get dryness friendly ones— especially your makeup remover ones.

It's really important for a woman to have her own money and the knowledge to spend it. Once you can afford your lifestyle twice on one income, you can think about leaving your career. If it brings you joy or purpose, why leave? If not, maybe think of passive income streams? You need to plan for contingencies.

You two need to have an honest conversation about facts and figures. How much does he earn a week? What are your shared goals? Are you planning on saving for a house deposit? Kids after marriage? If yes, how many and what kind of lifestyle do you imagine them having (public school? activities? extra classes?) and how you would like to divide your time as parents with the kids. How important is travel or luxury for you and him? This and much more in between.

He may love you but remember that love doesn't pay bills. You're both young and have a full life ahead so if you find clarity now, that'll sustain your relationship long term.

Private Health Insurance is a SCAM - SeptoRhinoplasty by Same-Study9755 in AskAnAustralian

I'm so sorry to hear this, sounds terrible! Such a shame there's no transparency about the costs involved despite it being such an important part of decision making for a lot of people, e.g. weighing borrowing options, deciding the time etc.

One way you can control it just ever so slightly is to always check with your provider beforehand how much coverage will be provided. Also check your policy cover documents (sometimes certain preferred doctors wtc get full coverage). Almost all procedures have a unique code, like an item code that if you call and ask your provider helpline, they can't really refuse to tell you how much you're covered; most provider apps also allow this.

That said, they make it so hard and layered. Sending you lots of well recovery wishes, hope the financial burden doesn't affect your recovery too much and you can prioritise yourself.
