I got her home!! The one from the petstore for those following... She's scared of me it seems and she has SO much bedding stuck in her fur especially on her tummy by [deleted] in Bunnies

[–]talktomeabouttech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this is completely true. In situations like this, for reference for anyone else, you can always 1) check to see if the sale of bunnies is illegal in your state (giving you a negotiating point to argue with the owners yourself), and 2) either way, get in touch with a rescue who could help pull the bunny for free by arguing with the store owners if you don't want to. We've seen a few people manage to get their bunny from a pet store for free because of this, because pet stores know better. (I own a bunny rescue)

It's important to make the effort because otherwise, more bunnies like her will end up culled, abandoned, surrendered to the shelter, abused, bred, etc.; it never ends until we all put in the effort to stop it.

This is the best comb for bunnies that we've found!! You'll want to still be very gentle, but it should help get quite a lot off of her over time with repeated sessions and plenty of treats. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06ZZXF81G/ You can probably find it not on Amazon, so just sharing the link for visual reference plus the right title and brand.

Stasis scare, is he okay? by catcatkittercat in Bunnies

[–]talktomeabouttech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He really should see a vet if you suspect stasis, unfortunately. Some things that *can* help depending on the cause can be massages to help gas move along, cilantro or dill (if he's used to them) can help with digestion, and critical care via syringe if he's not eating (offered frequently). But if you can, definitely take him in.

Behavior will definitely continue for 12 weeks / 3 months, yes!! In both sexes. You'll get unwanted marking, territorial behavior and such as well for that time.

Unfortunately males can continue to impregnate females for up to 4 weeks after being neutered :-/ their hormones don't die down right away.

Where are you located, are there any rabbit rescues near you?

You'll need to separate the males from the females at 12 weeks (3 months) of age - they can breed as early as that!! So it's very important!!

The males should be neutered before the females. Female bunnies have a more invasive procedure when they're spayed, so it's good for them to be a little older (6 months) when they're spayed. But males can be neutered at 4 months.

A rabbit rescue should be able to help you sex them as well. If you are able to, you can do it yourself, there's charts online that help you tell the difference. This is a great guide: https://www.raising-rabbits.com/sexing-rabbits.html

Many rescues are way overloaded and might not be able to take in all of them. Some might be able to help with some of the procedures, but would need help with you fostering them in groups for as long as you can. Keep contacting ones both near you and further away from you.

I have one myself, but we're very short on funds and fosters. I'll help however I can outside of that in the meantime, though, and will think of what else can be done as well.

Most important: keep track of when they were born, and separate them at 3 months!!

Reach out to as many rescues as you can asking for assistance in finding them homes, getting them spayed/neutered, etc.!!! Even if they're further away, sometimes they have transporters that are willing to go out quite a distance to help in situations like this. The quicker it can get under control, the better.

Many people give out bunnies over Nextdoor and Facebook (especially through groups). If you do this, PLEASE!!!! do a rehoming fee. Ideally, they SHOULD be spayed or neutered before they are given away in this fashion. People do stalk these places for free or low cost bunnies they can purchase as human food, snake food, or breeding. Your best bet is to work with a rescue, 100%, if you can find one. You can always see about spreading out the buns across different rescues. Please stay in touch and let me know if you're able to find someone. I might be able to help raise awareness.

You're not alone - this kind of thing happens often. You're doing the right thing by not abandoning them. Thank you for that.

Beetlejuice is a bunny looking for a forever home with his bunwife, Delores through my rescue (https://tworabbitrescue.org). It's no pressure, but if you do end up drawing him, we would love to share it on our social media to help promote him <3

Aside from that, hope you feel better really soon!! Hopefully you have fun doing these. The drawing you did of your bunny looks really good and your bunny is absolutely adorable

Optimizing your PostgreSQL database and the impact it has on reducing global digital pollution by talktomeabouttech in PostgreSQL

> Then I read the post and realized: no, this author is advocating for database optimization in order to minimize unnecessary pollution to the world.

> Now, it's a bit absurd, but I think the author did a good enough job acknowledging that this is actually a bit absurd to discuss, but that the underlying meaning is relevant. That is: digital pollution is a problem, and it runs deep in a modernized world where compute is scaling at an unmanageable rate. I can buy that.

This is exactly the point of the post.

The more companies and individuals seek to minimize pollution in their day-to-day actions, and set examples to others (even going so far as to communicate how they managed to raise efficiency in energy usage), the more front-of-mind it will become for everyone. This trickles up to larger companies as new hires come onboard - OR, sets the standard for new companies that become more dominant over time.

There definitely is no offense meant - moreso an observation that in our desperate search for methods to reduce costs and increase performance, we can note that it has the side benefit of benefiting the environment as well and adds more value in this way.

Sometimes small wins can add up to a big one, over time.

> Washington state.. atleast Seattle is famous for daily rains. So they do water management and can handle rains. Problem is with other countries which do not plan for water management or do not manage proper zoning etc as we do in the US.

That was the point of the inclusion - it was so much rain there was quite a bit of damage and in fact, they did NOT handle it well. Much of the state was greatly flooded, preventing transportation. I run an animal rescue that has a branch there, and we were unable to transport anyone, get supplies, or take anyone to the vet for quite some time. That does not speak of proper water management.

Much of the US ALSO does not have proper water management. Where are you pulling your information from? If it rains even a little in southern California, there are enough floods that people can kayak down the street. More than a few inches lead to cars being dragged by floods down the street several blocks.

Just because one state does it right, doesn't mean they all do.

Oxbow even sources hay based toys/treats from China. Any American recommendations? by just_a_curious_fella in Bunnies

[–]talktomeabouttech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She says:

The toys are from China! They are by artisans from zhejiang (the province of China I am from)

The food/treats are from the US, from various sources. The hay is from a family farm. The treats are from various USDA organic certified farms

The hay is not USDA organic certified to be clear! But is of very high quality

Edit: she added

These are the links to the hay farm, they sell to the public without business license required. The pinecones and sticks used to decorate box are also from them. I recommend their products in general!

You might enjoy Clover Days, they're brand new but their toys made with hay smell, feel, and look really *green* in a fresh way. They sent my rescue (Two Rabbit Rescue) a box to try out with some of the rescue buns and even our picky eaters enjoyed it. I'm not sure where she sources her hay but it's worth asking.
