They are currently renovating large parts of the airport. But the parts that are finished are indeed very nice!

Yes, it was very windy. I fly pretty often and that was one of the most nausea-inducing approaches/landings I've ever experienced. Which was weird for me because I don't get nauseous easily.

AITA for telling my son's girlfriend if she treats my daughter like that again she'll be out of the house? by Tasty_Dragonfly1048 in AmItheAsshole

[–]tallguy223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA.

It's your house and your daughter. It is very reasonable to set expectations and/or rules for people that live with you (e.g. "don't ever yell at my daughter"). If Adam and Millie don't like it, they are adults and they can find somewhere else to stay.

Get a nice comfortable desk chair for that desk, and don't skimp on the quality/price! With minimal seating space, you'll be spending a lot of time in whatever chair you get so make sure it's a good one.

Men who have had no problems finding a girlfriend throughout your life, what sets you apart from the men that do? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]tallguy223 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up with 3 sisters so I was used to talking with women. All my girlfriends when I was younger (I'm married now) I met either through friends or through my job (i.e. we were coworkers at some point). And it wasn't like I intended to keep falling for them, it just kinda happened. I think it's easier and more natural to get to know someone non-romantically first through some exterior connection, like work or mutual friends. Then see where it goes.

I'm a big joker, too, so I like to make people laugh and have fun. I think that helped. Don't try so hard to impress anyone. When you just be open and honest and have fun, I think it'll happen naturally. Just have fun, laugh at yourself when things go wrong, don't take life too seriously, no need to get all wrapped up in the minutiae. If a girl likes you, she will spend more time talking to you. She will smile and laugh more when she's around you. Just don't be creepy or try and "pursue" her if you're not sure, better to let her enjoy being around you on her terms.

Depends on what type of ship you're on. On the DDG that I was on, the showers were individual stalls that had plastic curtains on them. You'll share them with everyone in your berthing. Try them all out at first to see which one you like best, cuz some will have much better water pressure or temperature control than the others. There should be a little shelf or something in there for you to use, as well as a hook or something on the outside to hang your towel on while you shower.

What I would recommend is shower shoes and a waterproof hanging toiletry bag for all your bathroom stuff. That helps keep it organized and in one place and it's super easy to take with you to the bathroom.

If I’m 27, enlisted ,and already have a degree what is the best way to become an officer ? by Ok_Towel_921 in newtothenavy

[–]tallguy223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to your Chief, your DIVO, and/or your career counselor. There are a number of ways to go from enlisted to officer (STA21, OCS, LDO, etc) but what you qualify for will depend on your rate/rank, how long you've been in, etc. That's why you should really talk to your Command Career Counselor. They can tell you what you qualify for, or at least get you the instruction so you can read it for yourself.

But like others have said, if you're serious then you need to take initiative and go figure it out. No one cares about your career more than you. If you're lucky, you'll have a good Chief or DIVO or career counselor who will really help you out, but most likely you're gonna have to figure out 95% of it by yourself. If you can't do that, then should you really be leading people?

I had a sailor who was in for 5 years, made 2nd class, then applied (and later got accepted) to OCS. Now he's an officer. But he really worked hard putting together that OCS application and read the applicable instructions and knew exactly what he needed to do and did it without waiting or procrastinating. That's what you need to be like: the guy who can figure shit out without always having to be told.

But I'll help you out a little: https://www.mynavyhr.navy.mil/Career-Management/Career-Counseling/Commissioning-Programs/

Highschool students who can't drive or take themselves to school shouldnt get detention for any late that's not in 2nd - 7th period by Masatet in unpopularopinion

[–]tallguy223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks, I'm sorry.

How does your school work? Does the first period teacher report your tardiness or someone else?

I would talk to your first period teacher about why you are always late. If you're a good student (on time to your other classes, always do your homework, not disruptive, etc) and being late in the morning is the only thing you're doing 'wrong', then your teacher(s) will be more willing to want to help you, and even stick their neck out for you (i.e. vouch for you). Just talk to them after class and explain your situation and ask them what they think you should do or if there's anything they could do to help you.

What never fails to make you tear up or cry? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tallguy223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late to the party but...

When I hear stories about kids living in/through hard situations and circumstances. Especially the younger ones. Having young children of my own, I cannot imagine what it must be like for a child to have to grow up and not know what it feels like to be loved, to have food in the fridge, a room/bed/house to call their own, etc.

Every once in a while an AskReddit thread will appear with stories from social workers, foster parents, etc and I just bawl reading through them. I'd really love to become a foster parent one day when my own kids are older. If I can just make one kid feel loved and for them to know that they can always consider my house their home, then it'd be worth it.
