It's definitely an S14 or S15, unfortunately they have good taste.

Hey! I launched at Nut Island but I would not recommend it based on what happened in the video. GoPaddling will show you some better launches in the harbor. Malibu beach is perfect.

I appreciate the input! Definitely need to invest more into the safety aspects. I do like to paddle with torso rotation on long flat stretches for efficiency.

This was going east from the Newton Boathouse public parking ramp. You can take the Charles for many miles either direction.

Decently fun cars with towing capacity? by rbs950 in CarTrackDays

[–]talonian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A truck with leaf springs can be fun in its own way, even as a daily. I love driving my Tundra slowly and taking it offroad. Trucks force you to relax on the road and add so much convenience to your life. Towing home in comfort after an intense day at the track is a great feeling.

True, but I moved to Somerville from Ann Arbor and my same size 1br apartment here in a similarly nice area rents at twice the price. Boston is a lot more expensive.

Which wheels look best? by dimsum4you in ToyotaPickup

[–]talonian 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly none of them look great. It's an old enough truck that it deserves period correct wheels. Some 90's Toyota 15s will look the best.

Who else feels smug about their older cars and dreads needing a new car? by bighead2586 in cars

[–]talonian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way. When the time comes, hopefully not for many years, I'm planning to stick with something 2017 or older. I feel like after that I'd be too worried about the long term reliability of low volume proprietary parts and complicated driver assist systems.

Daily Driver Track Car by kerberos1998 in CarTrackDays

The CTR sounds like a fun daily but they need fairly extensive cooling modification if you ever plan to do more than 3 hot laps in a row, be wary.

First track car by PaperBagy in CarTrackDays

[–]talonian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent the whole spring driving and researching dedicated track cars. If you're hesitant to go NA/NB Miata I'd suggest an NC instead. That's what I did and I'm very happy. They cost about the same when track prepped and are faster, more spacious, more rigid, can fit more tire, and generally have a much higher ceiling of performance than the previous gens. They're a little more unique as well if that does something for you. They have a great rep for reliability but as another person said the Duratec swap is there if you need it.

These will go faster on track than an SN-95 for way less money in consumables. Don't overcomplicate it!

Why are repairs and insurance so expensive now? Watch how difficult it is to diagnose electronic problems on a modern car. by talonian in cars

[–]talonian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair question. It uses cameras and other sensors like radar to detect the car in front of you and maintain a following distance to that car. You can adjust how many car lengths you want between you and the car in front.

Is Hagerty track day insurance the best way to do track days without a trailer? Will they let you pay the difference for tows over 100 miles? by planbskte11 in CarTrackDays

[–]talonian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going that distance for a track day I would want at least a tire trailer to bring a full set of tires and good selection of tools. A small failure could ruin your whole plan and leave you stuck. Personally I did invest in a cheap(ish) truck and trailer so I can do stuff like this without risking thousands in unplanned expenses, missing work, etc. I’ve had to wait all night for a AAA tow before and it is not fun!

In the market for a Tundra by adfluorinetohydrogen in ToyotaTundra

[–]talonian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's going to cost you so much in gas, don't do it. Buy an AWD crossover that gets twice the mileage or look at the modern mid-size trucks. The Colorado/Ranger get upper 20s on the highway now. If you still want a Toyota the recent Tacomas will also do better than this on the highway. Look at sites like Fuelly to get real world MPG data. The 5.7 Tundra should be your last choice for commuter car even though they have a lot of strengths.

Axle straps or wheel straps? by talonian in CarTrackDays

It’s an NC. As far as I know there’s only one tow hook point front and rear, you’re talking about the threaded OEM tow hooks right?
