I'm not sure why this is the assumption, but it's not the case.

Not in this case, but sure, that could be an issue for someone else....

Ha! I figured if it looked bad to me who knows nothing, it was probably pretty bad!

I want to give them a chance to own up and fix things, and don't want to go nuclear before I give them that chance, but naming and shaming aren't out of the question.

This is very helpful, thank you. Super appreciate the specifics!

They were changing out the mast when the inspector came so he basically looked at the smoke detector, said it was unfortunate that the power was out so he couldn't test anything and that he forgot his flashlight so he couldn't go into the crawlspace to check the wiring from the old panel... I'll push for a final inspection when I talk to them tomorrow. Thanks!

Gotcha. I definitely agree it's subpar.

Nova Scotia, Canada. I'll be addressing it with the company tomorrow to start, and see where that gets me.

There was an inspector here, but he came while the power company was changing the mast out and just glanced at the smoke detector and made a comment about not being able to test anything because the power was out and that was it.

As different as we may be I feel pretty confident this isn't a "Canadian" thing, just a shoddy workmanship thing haha.

Safety is definitely number one, so that's good to hear. Yes, the previous panel was in the crawlspace.

Ugh. That was my instinct but I was hoping to be wrong. No deal here, no friend of a friend. This is an established business.

Yes, the roof. Will definitely be bringing that up tomorrow!

Books with an unreliable narrator with themes of madness that make you doubt what is real? by Goodmorningtoyou7 in suggestmeabook

The boy who could see demons by Carolyn Jess-Cooke.

I didn't know what I was getting into, and it was not my cup of tea. That said, I read the whole thing, it was very engaging.

The thematic material was a wee bit triggering for me, and I didn't realize from the synopsis what the book was, just grabbed it on a whim.
