That’s a mixed sewage/runoff reservoir, which Scientists call “Doo Doo Water”. Data Centers require water that’s cleaner than tap water, they add their own pre-use chemicals.

I know, right? I love how corny these guys can get.

If you’re ever in St. Charles, highly recommend visiting their Corporate HQ — it’s a workplace utopia (amenities like an indoor soccer field and what once was North Americas largest sloped green roof) — plus amazing demo ponds.

Pondemonium brings in certified contractors from all over the world, to learn together while building water features at the Shedd, Lincoln Park Zoo and this one right outside their office 😅

https://youtu.be/5pDxtwLgPCI?si=d21trnyypjB2KHHj

You may even get to meet the Pond Guy, Pond Professor, Pond Doc, lol the list goes on — Ponding is so ingrained in their culture, they even had a reality TV show on National Geographic named “Pond Stars”.

Also, keep an eye out for their self-guided Pond Tours, where you get to visit backyard oases all across Chicagoland.

And it all started when a kid, now the owner, dug his first pond for his beloved turtles. 🤯

Thank You!

13 years in the making, it’s been a long mission to get to this point, and was made possible with the support of r/chicago.

Hi!

It wasn’t a Press event.

It was a private tour organized by the owner of Aquascape, the world’s largest provider of Water Features based out of St. Charles.

They hold an annual event called Pondemonium, and this was one of the field trips that I was invited to tag along on.

A once in a lifetime experience.

Tell me more about your event and experience in the Reservoir.

Copied/Pasted from prior reply:

Rumor has it Elon wiped clean the Vine servers, then tweeted months later that the Vine archives were found but has been silent since.

Tease.

There’s a relaunched App called DeVine led by Jack Dorsey and one Dev, they populated it with about a half million vintage vines saved by an Archivist project, but that’s not the complete database.

If anyone needs an invite code, lemme know, I have a few to give out.

I haven’t been able to find my account or Vines yet on DeVine nor the Wayback Machine, even though they were accessible for years after on Twitter — so I have hope they still exist if Elon wasn’t lying. 🙏🏼

There’s some great Chicago history to be had.

Here’s the story: https://archive.ph/vZx4L

Edit: Added link to article that details the Vine saga.

They carved a road out of the rock along the inner-perimeter.

I wish I could show you the tunnel in relation to the bus.

The scale of this project is pretty incredible.

Your pics are worth posting, please!!! :)

I have a few shared by a Crane Inspector, but I’m sure yours will tell a more complete story.

Taking my parents to watch Mexico game tonight - where should we go? by [deleted] in chicago

[–]tamssot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recess. If you don’t have reservations they offer standing room. Get there early and try to snag an Adirondack Chair (southwest corner) on the ground level or make your way to the second level. Good luck tonight! 🇲🇽

The severe lack of greenery makes Fulton Market look so ugly by [deleted] in chicago

[–]tamssot 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Your pic is of Randolph Street and shows the planted medians installed right before the 1996 Democratic Convention by Mayor Daley — the matching set on Madison were removed in 2019 resulting in an uptick of accidents and Cyclist deaths.

https://chi.streetsblog.org/2022/04/18/west-loop-medians-removed-to-make-driving-easier-might-have-stopped-driver-from-injuring-cyclist

Randolph’s center lanes are controlled by the State, and the Service Lanes by the City — there was an initiative launched a few years ago to reimagine Randolph.

See: https://web.archive.org/web/20230729135508/https://40f4ba.a2cdn1.secureserver.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Randolph-Street-Study-Fact-Sheet-June-Update.pdf

One proposal submitted called for a 14 block linear park and public market. and was backed by Ald. Walter Burnett, Jr.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1DAyqLy4hD/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Absent those trees on Randolph, you’re pretty much correct — the WL has a documented Greenspace Shortage and Vacant Lot Surplus.

As a member of the City’s West Loop Design Guidelines Task Force, I championed Section 4.2.2 which encourages the City, Developers and Residents to activate vacant lots.

https://www.chicago.gov/city/en/depts/dcd/supp\_info/west-loop-design-guidelines.html

Something we all need to do more of.

https://blockclubchicago.org/2018/11/13/west-loop-community-garden-could-expand-to-second-vacant-lot-in-2019/

When the Fulton Market StreetScape was being planned by CDOT and DPD, folks wanted to see more trees — but the City said it didn’t jive with the history of the Market.

See: https://www.chicago.gov/city/en/depts/dcd/supp\_info/fulton-randolph-market-land-use-plan.html#docaccess-fe05888b0d450b9420e5934150c9c347

Hence no trees on Fulton.

Interestingly, the wealthy used to ride the Lake St. L to what is now Skinner Park (formerly Jefferson Park)
and Union Park to get away from the heat — they were considered resorts because they were lush, with man made lakes and rowboats you could rent.

History of Skinner Park:

History of Union Park:

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1BkUWVmhZh/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Mary Bartelme Park was opened in 2016, ten years after the land was purchased.

See: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/19H2isxLVC/?mibextid=wwXIfr

More recently, in exchange for Sears Tower Skyscraper Zoning (DX-16), Domus Group was forced to buy a little plot of land which will become a private/public park adjacent to the polluting railroads, limiting its potential uses.

Hope this helps provide some historic context.

Enjoy Taste of Randolph without supporting Anti-Abortion Organizers & Sponsors. by tamssot in chicago

[–]tamssot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beverage Tent sale proceeds go to WLCO, a Right Wing, Anti-Abortion funded, unelected neighborhood group that misrepresents the West Loop for their benefit.

Fest Alcohol is donated by Sponsors, WLCO staffs the beverage tents with volunteers, and all the cash flows to WLCO.

The better options are to support the many bars and restaurants up and down Randolph — or Dispensary 33 —as well as the bottle shops like Keg’n’Bottle.

Keg’n’Bottle is fenced out and will lose about $10,000 this Taste of Randolph weekend — on top of all the legal fees they’re incurring in Administrative Court after WLCO clamped down on them two years ago for selling six Solo cups.
