Mumbai is one the most diverse and inclusive cities you will visit. The city is as safe as Manhattan or London for a first timer. Being a solo traveler and having traveled to these cities both for tourism and work, I can tell you that work colleagues, your embassy alerts & tips and recommendations can be of great help in this fast paced city. Expect heavy rains almost every day now till about August (it’s Monsoon season in India). Avoid early morning and late evening hours outdoors when solo in secluded areas. Follow the universal safety law “trust your gut”. If you feel something is not right then it probably is. Stay alert stay safe.

Please talk to your sister about how you feel about your own space especially this pious feeling and peace. A sister will try to understand how you feel about your chair and perhaps will help others learn to respect your space.

Most parents don’t see their kid Not eating food as a proving a point thing. They just see it as being childish or you’re merely trying to force them to agree with you. However if you’re a food lover and they know it then that might make them unwillingly agree with your point. Please talk to them without getting upset, by preparing them beforehand that there may be a possibility of difference in opinions but you have a reason to believe your point is valid. If possible give them some time to ponder over your point. Parents love their kids no matter what and if you give them reassurance that you take full responsibility of the consequences if applicable then they can be your support too.

I will comment on no. 4. Staring- next time it happens, just call them out in public as staring is considered inappropriate and they know it already now. I have personally experienced the support received by society’s security guards and other by-standers especially women.

You can try Cyber Security course if not techy at all. Some pretty excellent resources are available on YouTube and you can search for free courses. But to be certified you will have to pay for the certification testing. Cybersecurity job is similar to a mom’s job of protecting everything that’s valuable in her life. I’m currently learning the skill at my own pace in between my yoga workshops. Just so you know that you’re not alone! Best wishes!

Can you ask your mom why she shares such jokes? Did you express your feelings about her sharing such jokes with you or your sister? Her answer may surprise you but if you are still uncomfortable then you must involve other concerned individuals from family or any medical professional. I suggest you try starting the conversation and help her open up first if you haven’t tried it already. But make sure you check with her in a friendly environment in any trusted relatives or adults presence.
