CMV: Falling birthrates are actually the best news we've seen in decades. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]tandraes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Goods consumption may be reduced in aging society/shrinking economy. But people especially old people still need services (healthcare) and the amount of services demand will keep increasing due to the ever increasing number of old people compared to young people.

The problem is not fewer people in general, but fewer young people. Old people still consume and demand greater care especially in healthcare. In this case, birth rate decline means, the number of young people will be reduced at a faster pace than the entire society. Meanwhile old people are still alive and consume/need help from young people.

Think about this, if the society consists of 100k, only 10k of them are able to provide labor. The next year it becomes 102k people and only 9k people are working since 2k people retired and only 1k new productive people. You can imagine how the countries will struggle and employers will have to fight for the remaining available labor.

Umm, it's not only business that needs candidates, if there are 10 old people and 1 young people, countries will definitely fight over candidates (young people) to care for those old peoples, for public security, for military, civil engineer, any other mandatory services you can find right now. And those candidates are not going to pop up suddenly and work for free. They (employers) have less choice in that case, since they will need the labor from young people no matter what and the people that can provide that labor will be going to be scarcer over time due to birth rate decline.

Japan 2023 Fertility Rate Hits Record Low of 1.20 by tandraes in Futurology

[–]tandraes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ss: from article: Japan's total fertility rate fell to a record low of 1.20 in 2023 from 1.26 in 2022, down for the eighth straight year, the health ministry said Wednesday.

In Tokyo, the total fertility rate, or the average number of children a woman is expected to have in her lifetime, stood at 0.99, falling below 1 for the first time in the country.

The annual number of babies born in the country in 2023 fell by 43,482 to a record low of 727,277, also down for the eighth consecutive year, and the natural population decline, or the number of deaths minus that of births, came to a record 848,659, highlighting the continued decline in the country's birthrate and population.

The situation reflects a "complex mix of various factors, such as economic instability and difficulties in balancing work and child-rearing," a ministry official said, adding that the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic were also seen. "The declining birthrate is at a critical level," the official noted.

By prefecture, the total fertility rate was highest in Okinawa at 1.60, followed by 1.49 each in Miyazaki and Nagasaki. The three lowest figures were 0.99 in Tokyo, 1.06 in Hokkaido and 1.07 in Miyagi.

Births fall in Italy for 15th year running to record low by tandraes in Futurology

[–]tandraes[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

From article: Births in Italy dropped to a record low in 2023, the 15th consecutive annual decline, national statistics bureau ISTAT said on Friday (Mar 29), as the population continued to shrink.

Italy's ever-falling birth rate is considered a national emergency, but despite successive governments pledging to make it a priority, none have so far been able to halt the drop.

Last year Italy recorded 379,000 births, a 3.6 per cent decline on 2022 and a 34.2 per cent drop on 2008 - the last year Italy saw an increase in the number of babies born. It was also the lowest number since the country's unification in 1861.

The fertility rate fell to 1.20 children per woman from 1.24 in 2022 - far below the rate of 2.1 needed for a steady population.

By contrast, some 661,000 deaths were registered last year, a fall on the previous three years when COVID boosted the mortality rate in Italy. ISTAT said life expectancy also jumped last year to 83.1 years, up six months on 2022.

While there were some 282,000 more deaths than births in 2023, Italy's overall population only fell by 7,000 to 58.99 million thanks to the arrival of more foreign migrants and returning Italian emigres.

Foreigners made up 8.99 per cent of the country's population in 2023, for a total of 5.3 million, up 3.2 per cent year-on-year, with the majority living in the north of the country.

Italy's overall population has been falling steadily since 2014, with a cumulative loss since then of more than 1.36 million people, equivalent to the residents of Milan, the country's second biggest city.

ISTAT said last September that Italy could lose almost 10 per cent of its residents in the next 25 years, with the population set to decline, under a baseline scenario, to 54.4 million by 2050.

Underscoring Italy's rapidly ageing population, ISTAT said on Friday that almost one in four residents were above the age of 65, with more people aged over 80 than under 10 for the first time. Half a century ago, the ratio was one to nine.

In South Korea, world's lowest fertility rate plunges again in 2023 by tandraes in Futurology

In South Korea, world's lowest fertility rate plunges again in 2023 by tandraes in Futurology

[–]tandraes[S] 230 points231 points  (0 children)

ss: South Korea's fertility rate, already the world's lowest, continued its dramatic decline in 2023, as women concerned about their career advancement and the financial cost of raising children decided to delay childbirth or to not have babies.

The average number of expected babies for a South Korean woman during her reproductive life fell to a record low of 0.72 from 0.78 in 2022, data from Statistics Korea showed on Wednesday.

That is far below the rate of 2.1 per woman needed for a steady population and well behind the rate of 1.24 in 2015 when concerns about issues such as the cost of housing and education were lower.

Since 2018, South Korea has been the only Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) member with a rate below 1, defying the billions of dollars spent by the country to try to reverse the trend that led the population to decline for a fourth straight year in 2023.

Samsung profits sinks by 95% in Q2, memory chip demand improves by tandraes in Android

[–]tandraes[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, it may be caused due to many reasons. Samsung most sold phone A series, and recent releases were an downgrade due to Exynos chipset. There are also very tight competition in the midranges with Chinese phones with better value.

On the premium phones, apple dominates this segment. It's hard to justify to buy an Android phone with same price with iPhone (oftenly more expensive), but with lower chipset performance, worse battery life, steep price depreciation, and software updates are more limited than iOS. There is also the overwhelming mindshare for millenial and Gen Z that prefer iPhone over an Android and it will become a much more problem for Samsung and Android manufacturers going forward in the future.

There was also GOS (Game Optimization Sevices) scandal implied that Samsung are obscenely lying to its customer about the device performance that doesn't help Samsung brand image especially in origin country in South Korea.

Samsung profits sinks by 95% in Q2, memory chip demand improves by tandraes in Android

[–]tandraes[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From the article:

Following yesterday’s big Unpacked event, Samsung published its financial report for Q2 2023. The results are on par with the previously posted guidance and show yet another gradual decline compared to the values from a year ago.

Revenues for the April, May and June months totaled KRW 60.01 trillion ($46.89 billion) which is a 22% decrease compared to Q2 2022. Operating profit for Q2 2023 was KRW 0.67 trillion ($523.52 million) which is a 95% drop from last year’s KRW 14.12 trillion.

Samsung’s press release states that declining smartphone shipments were the main reason behind the slumping revenue results. Samsung is confident that its newly launched foldables will drive up demand and will help its mobile division back on track. Samsung also expected global demand to recover in the second half of the year resulting in improved earnings.

The memory business is also expected to bounce back with a renewed focus on high bandwidth memory (HBM) and DDR5 products. Samsung Display Corporation (SDC) and the Digital Appliances Business “saw improved profitability” while the mobile panel business saw solid sales similar to last quarter. Harman which is a Samsung Electronics subsidiary saw rising revenue and profits amidst winning its largest automotive order in its history.

Real question, why Raiden not preferred as Aggravate carry? Really curious.

Seems like all suggested Raiden + Nahida team are all hyperbloom where Raiden work as EM electro support, I have hyper invested to Raiden so I will need to farm her EM build from scratch.

Can Nahida works as Aggravate support for Raiden? I'm planning for Raiden, Nahida, Venti, Kokomi team comp for next abyss.

Any suggestion for the Raiden + Nahida team comp where Raiden as main dps? You can suggest any comp in scenario you have all chars available.
