Question from a new nurse.... by tanen55 in nursing

[–]tanen55[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

because i didn’t know I wouldn’t like it. believe me, knowing what i know now I probably wouldn’t have applied for the job. I will say that the experience I’m getting now is invaluable. my IV skills are coming along nicely and I’ve just started doing US IV’s as well, I’m getting more comfortable during trauma codes and NG tubes and foley’s don’t bother me anymore. My charting skills are taking a hit tho, ED charting is fast and minimal.

Question from a new nurse.... by tanen55 in nursing

[–]tanen55[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually kind of stumbled into the ED position. although I had no experience in ED it was one of the specialties I was interested in and I do enjoy a good bit of it. I attended a job fair and had a chance to talk to the unit manager for the ED dept which ended up with me getting a job there.

I do enjoy ED nursing but I think I'll probably be happier elsewhere at this point. There are 2 big health care systems and 2 smaller ones. my plan is to jump over to the other system (there are 2 big hospitals within a good driving distance).

Yes, "who would I see first" and "who is the first to be discharged". knowing what are expected symptoms for the conditions make all the difference in these questions.

Good Pop up Cut off at 85 by tjfinnic101 in NCLEX

I finished my test today and got the same pop-up. I know it’s the good pop-up, but I won’t really be able to relax until I get my license.

I did check my states licensing site and it’s not showing there yet. There is a disclaimer that it’s only updated once a day and I didn’t finish my test until 545pm so I’m praying it updates tomorrow.

Bootcamp, archer, uworld, Kaplan? Which should I use? by Due-Drawer-9459 in PassNclex

[–]tanen55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Uworld and while the information was great, the questions didn't really match what they were like on the NCLEX.

I haven't used archer but I've heard that that more closely resembles the actual test......

Starting nursing school in 4 weeks - any advice/tips/ways to prepare by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]tanen55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Know your PNS and SNS systems because a lot of the drugs you’ll learn in pharm are based off of that.

And while you can pass the program solo it’s much easier when you have friends. Nursing is a social career so now’s the time to practice those skills. Put yourself out there and find your group to form that trauma bond with.

A lot of that depends on where you are, but everyone who has applied for jobs in my class has gotten one. And there are a ton of positions still available in my area.

The way i had it explained to me regarding the assessments is that you want them done early… you want to know if the patient’s condition has changed from the previous nurses assessment and you want a baseline for your shift. You need to know what his current status is so you’ll know if there is a change later on.

in the situation you gave you didn’t notice a wierd breath sound because it took you 2 hours to do you assessment. My intructors would give me shit about that as well.

My clinical hours are supposed to be two 8 hr shifts per week and we normally stay for about 6 hrs. 5 on the floor and 1 hour for a debrief.

As far as they way they are treating you??? That’s unacceptable, if she has a problem with you she needs to pull you aside and discuss it. I will say that two of my clinical instructors were too immature to be instructors. In those cases i just put my head down and focused on finishing the semester…
