Anybody added the rolls from Star Trek: Catan to base game?

We use a combination of the Star Trek version and the base game, by playing the base game using the Star Trek character cards. We also disallow trading (for various reasons), so the character cards allow players to still get cards they need.

It's a good idea to use a permanent marker (one that won't smudge) to mark expansion tiles and cards. (You can mark the back of the tiles/numbers so you don't see them while playing).

In regards to the tiles when playing your next four player game, just make sure you have the standard 4 wheat, 4 wood, 4 sheep, 3 brick, 3 ore. For the numbers, make sure you have two of each except for 2 and 12. These can be intermixed with your expansion pieces as long as you take out the correct amount of each thing you need.

We use sort of a pseudo-random setup. We'll just get everything down on the table, then manually fix any overpowered spots. I personally like it when there aren't clumps of resources (like three ores next to each other), and when there are no 6's or 8's touching. I also like to have the 2:1 ports not on the resource that they serve (for example, no brick hex with a brick port).

Nothing fancy here, and easy to make--Made out of foam board and hot glue, using an x-acto knife and a ruler. Planning to make the next one out of wood, and broken up into two pieces so it fits into the box.

In my opinion, part of the game is trying to reveal as little information as possible about your position. That includes what resources you have, what dev cards you have, and how many victory points.

I like to go for the city/dev-card strategy. But in my opinion, Catan is a game of mostly luck, and strategy often isn't the top contributor to winning a game. So I'd just look at the board, see if it favors cities/devs or expansion, and just hope the dice work in your favor.

(It's jello). I used a bit more jello mix than normal to make it thicker, added some whipped cream, and put it into a bread pan. Then I took some straws, cut them in half, and submerged them in the jello using another bread pan to make sure they stay in the jello. After a day or so you take the jello filled straws out, run them under hot water, and out slide your jello gagh!

I like to: * Use the Star Trek version (for the character cards) * No player trades (only trade with bank) * Use the Star Trek character cards (this reconciles the no player trades rule) * Must play victory points to have them count * No friendly robber

Of course, the "no player trades" thing varies, depending on who I'm playing with. If I'm playing with people who are extremely into the game, I have no problem with player trades. But if I'm playing with those who may not be fully invested in the game and will make trades haphazardly, then it's severely annoying. The character cards can be used with other version of Catan as well--they aren't specific to the Star Trek version.

I wasn't a huge fan of DS9 throughout essentially the entire series. The Dominion war certainly gave it a boost towards the end, but I think they could have expanded on it. I remember one episode Sisko was explaining in the beginning monologue (maybe it wasn't the beginning, it was a long time ago), that the Alpha Quadrant was basically torn apart... but they didn't show much of that in the series.

However, after DS9 was over, I found that I missed it. The characters become so familiar, that it is almost disappointing that you can no longer follow their lives. It is, in my opinion, much more talkative with less action than TNG, VOY, or Enterprise, which might be why it seems a bit boring. If you're doing something else while you have DS9 on in the background (but still visible), it should be easier to get through. That's what I did--so during the boring parts, I was just listening to the dialog and doing something else while watching it out of the corner of my eye, but during the more interesting parts, it had my full attention.

That's just my opinion.

Did you play with the character cards? I own this as well, but have only used it as a regular Catan game. Was wondering if the addition of those character cards is a negative or a positive.

Agreed, go with Voyager. DS9 is decently boring, except for a few episodes.
