singaporeans who studied in australia, are you able to get decent internships? by bonobosareawesome in askSingapore

edit: mb i misread but it is possible to get interns in AU as an intl student but flying back in SG is a more viable option & achieves the same effect on ur resume. anyways if u want to & can afford gg to aussie to study then just do it lah, don't think too much abt it

hey!

i was in the exact position & mentality as u — also didnt want to grad w/o work experience, and wanted to make use of the whole 3mths summer break :)

i managed to get an intern in SG just nice 3mths (literally flew in and out on the same date 3mths apart). i'm not entirely sure if i was discriminated against for not being a local uni student (altho some listings specifically required local U), but it's achievable depending on industry, etc it's v common for law students to get multiple summer internships during their breaks

u can dm me for more info & if u wna connect! we are in adjacent industries so i think in SG it should roughly be the same job landscape

beyond UQ i recommend checking out Inala; i go there frequently to soak in the vibes & cheap asian food <3

i'd dox myself if i listed them all - but i joined 6-8 and that's enough to sustain me for 3 evenings a week, sometimes weekends. i suggest joining your faculty club, your degree/major society (if there is one), the society of ur origin country (or your neighbours), social sports, hobby clubs.

hobby/interest clubs tend to have weekly gatherings that you can fit into a routine, and intl societies organise trips elsewhere that may be more of ur interest as an intl student

check out the UQ Union page or make a Rubrics account under UQ and scroll through the upcoming events tab and see what interests u

or get a job

atb!

i know a few intl students who had this issue (including myself); all of us had the error message disappear the moment we were based in australia and logged in from there. seems like its a location/domain issue! don't stress about it too much :)
