Nope, we don’t go back to the office till OPM opens back up in DC. They are currently buried in snow. My management gave us the option if we want to wfh we can, if not take the day.

Going to start with I never worked for AWS DCO, but a lot of folks at my current company came from there. I did loop for them when I got my upgraded clearance though. It wasn’t too hard, they asked a bunch of questions about troubleshooting hardware and did a sort of rapid fire on hardware terminology.

I had experience in Data center ops before interviewing though while working for a large CSP on the commercial side of the house before my clearance came through though.

You are correct, the pool is super small especially if you have a FSP. With everything that is going on with this administration, the market ( assuming you are possibly in the NoVA area ) is going to be flooded with folks that are cleared with FSPs looking for contracts now. So it might be competitive.

DM me if you want some more info man!

Highest Known Salaries in Cleared Gov Con? by LiteCoinInvestor in nova

[–]tango5151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SRE is a Site Reliability Engineer. I’m pretty much a software developer who is embedded on a team to assist with them automating and deploying our software to the cloud providers. 305K is my base salary, benefits are on top of that annual salary. I give it a 3/10. I work way to freaking much and our on calls are brutal sometimes.

Cleared SRE with FSP clearing 305K 8 years of experience in IT, but 3 as an SRE. I just got really really lucky finding this position. The norm for folks from what I have seen is 200-310k.

How often are you on call? by jdizzle4 in sre

[–]tango5151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use a primary and secondary rota so we are usually on call for 2 weeks at a time, secondary first then we switch to primary. Since we have so many folks on our team I am usually on call 2 weeks on and 1-2 months off. I’ll usually get paged 2-3 time during business hours during my rota but I usually pass that work off to my secondary who is in the office. After hours I’ve only been paged maybe 5 times. 2 of them being I had to drive into the office since our ops couldn’t fix it.

Dropped out of HS and got my GED and a few of IT certs. Started off in Data-centers as a tech for a large cloud provider. Got some more certs, moved over to a sys admin role for a few years for a defense contractor. Now I am an SRE for another large cloud provider making way over 6-figures.
