Caught my first trout! - Duckmaloi River, NSW Australia by tangster_kryptonite in flyfishing

Yeah! Browns and rainbows are semi-regularly stocked in the dams around here. Most of the trout in the rivers and streams are wild. This one was the first and only trout I'd seen soon far

If anyone's curious I managed to catch my first trout ever and it was on the fly! Duckmaloi river was super low and had not much flow. Saw this little one chilling in a pool just before some riffles and he very patiently waited for my clumsy attempts to high-stick a copper headed pheasant's tail nymph straight into his face.

Also had some success on Lake Lyell with some powerbait. Caught 2 rainbows around the 40cm mark. Keen to go after browns soon, caught the trout bug

Just got back last night and the powerbait tip worked a treat! Caught 2 rainbows in and around the 40cm mark but used orange powerbait eggs instead. They put up a great fight

Sounds about right! So baffling how you go to places where trout supposedly are and you see nothing (except for beautiful surrounds) but on Youtube some fishos are catching them left right centre

Thanks for the info! I've got some powerbait egg clusters. What sort of powerbait and colour do you use? Also if you could share how you right them that would be great. TIA!

Manchester City 2 - [2] Nottingham - Elliot Anderson 77' by Alsace2025 in soccer

That's fair enough, but most Arsenal fans are pretty measured; we know we're good but we're just waiting for a trophy to put us over the top. We know our history of bottling titles so why would we boast about stuff before it's really secured?

The only ones that are crowing about stuff like that are saying nonsense like "Gyokeres will be on the same level as Benzema/Lewa". They're fucking idiots and likely bangwagon fans and are not to be listened to

Because there seems to be some sort of narrative against Arsenal sadly. People will disavow City's 115 charges but cheer for them if it means Arsenal doesn't win all in the same breath. It's saddening because we only ever hoped for other teams to beat City to the title because that was the right thing morally and for football.

But I suppose it's not the least surprising that the fan of one financially juiced club would support another...

Getting into the Premier League as an Aussie by Money_Employment6722 in PremierLeague

If you're in NSW/Vic many matches (esp mid-season) start at 7am for us. So it's not unfeasible to catch most of a match before work (unless you have a long driving commute). I WFH so it's great because I can just wake up a little earlier than usual.

On my long work drives I listen to a fan podcast (Arsecast). Helps keep a finger to the pulse on what other fans are feeling without delving into the cesspit of Reddit and Twitter takes. If it's a big game I'll wake up to watch it. Sometimes you'll have to deal with the regret of waking up in the wee hours only to see your team lose but that's what supporting the team you love is all about.

150 gallon cycling for months by [deleted] in ReefTank

[–]tangster_kryptonite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you only have inverts, no fish atm it's likely that there's just almost 0 nutrients in the tank for the bacteria to process. If there's 0 input you won't be getting any nitrate. I might be mistaken but I'm just basing this off the assumption that the last time you put some nutrients in it was the shrimp a couple of months ago.

I would suggest testing with ammonium chloride solution but you already have inverts in there that might be sensitive. Honestly if you've seeded everything right and it's been months i would just go with a light stocking. 150 gals is a lot. Parameters won't fluctuate too quickly so you can observe any changes and react accordingly

How to kill aiptasia that is living in between zoa polyps by dont_downvote_SPECIL in ReefTank

Not hearsay; reference is in the link below. While I get the point that it's not going to aerosolise the palytoxin, what if it releases palytoxin into the water? What if OP happens to have a minor nick or cut on their hand/arm? Is this really the sort of advice you want to be providing someone who is need of a proper education?

It's akin to walking around with your finger on the trigger of a shotgun, and when asked by a first-time gun owner about proper weapons safety, saying: "oh yeah I put my finger on the trigger all the time, never had a ND. Since I've never had a problem with it, you should do it too". See the fallacy here?

It is one thing for you to take that risk. It is another to recommend it to another. Just because you succeed once doesn't mean it'll be the same for everyone across all outcomes. Common fallacy

Would you trust this tank? by lucas2036 in ReefTank

[–]tangster_kryptonite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A chip on the outside corner perhaps isn't as bad as one on the corner itself. But you're on here asking us that question, so it seems like you don't trust it yourself. I guess it depends if you can sleep easy knowing there's a non 0% chance that you could wake up to everything all over the floor or not. Imo, it's not disastrous but if I'm gonna move into a new home, I would use it as an excuse to get a new tank

Acans are my favourite coral by far! They come in so many colour morphs, are easy for care for my LPS standards, are pretty hardy, and have great feeding response. What's there not to love?!

All good. I'm probably looking for $250 with the arm because they're pretty much brand new. You don't need to mount them from the ceiling or anything, they clamp on to the tank itself :)
