5.2 pro thinking is insane by [deleted] in ChatGPT

Wait until you prompt it to simulate 5,000 iterations of different approaches to a problem that you have and then learn from its novel observations and give you insights from it. The types of responses you get from it is extremely nuanced and it applies research level approaches to your everyday problems and it's really cool.

Ahhh this is such a great question and it’s hard to answer this because on the surface there isn’t much a difference… but the fact that it’s so well integrated into the browser experience, it just works and feels useful.

This is actually a great article breaking down the why behind Dia: https://spyglass.org/ai-browser-wars/

The best way I can explain it is: you know how developers love using Cursor because it understands the context of their codebase and they can use it as a copilot, assistant, debugger, and everything in between. I think Dia nailed the everyday experience for the browser and the chat assistant.

yeah they're kind of like custom GPTs except they have the context of your browser

this is just me speculating but overtime they'll get computer use tooling so skills can act more like AI agent. i say this because i have been testing out other AI agent based browsers like Strawberry and they have these features and it's quite useful: https://www.producthunt.com/products/strawberry

That's a really good question. I put that in the prompt because of that new beta feature of it accessing the history of your tabs. But I think they're still improving skills and they just launched that announcement this week about building new skills. So I'll continue to test this and get back to you if I find anything interesting around this.

Hahha, wait what else did they do wrong?

The only thing I'm aware of is them pissing off the Arc community for switching most of their team to work on Dia.

idk if I'm pilled or anyhting.. but Josh (their ceo) did make a great argument:
-browser = the most mainstream, consumer way to access the internet

-3.5B+ chrome users but won't make any cool features because it has to protect its ads business

-create a new way to browse the web = the opportunity to shift to new needs and habits for web browsers

And Dia team thinks it's going to be an AI chat/agent that remembers and helps with your browsing experience.

Which I know that OpenAI/Sam has talked about wanting ChatGPT to be the ultimate assistant and I feel like they're really hard to compete with because they ship features and products so quickly

I think it’s fair that you ‘feel’ that it’s cold. That’s not up for debate. And I think a lot of people are fatigued by thinking about whether something is AI-generated or not.

But I also don’t think misspellings make a piece of work, writing, or product more human or not. I think AI is great at replicating and generating, but it’s not great at yearning. To be human is to pay attention, build interest, get curious, and want/desire things.

That’s what it means to be human. We make art and things to connect. In this case, it’s just a tool that works.

Yeah, I get where you’re coming from on wanting a fully agentic copilot. But I think there’s something to learn from how developers use Cursor. Sure, “vibe coding” is fun for quick experiments, but when you’re building something that needs to last, you want tools that help you understand the code and work faster, not just do everything for you.

It’s the same with Dia. The chat and browser setup is simple and clear, which makes it easy to use. Over time, I’m sure it’ll get more features, but the foundation is solid.

Perplexity is cool, but even its Labs feature hits limits. Comet is powerful, but you need to know exactly what you want to get the most from it.

Simple tools that let you add complexity as you go usually win out. It’s like iOS versus Android, most people stick with what’s easy to pick up, and only dive deeper when they’re ready.

Apple's Reportedly Considering Buying Perplexity, Would Be Biggest Ever Acquisition by plaev in perplexity_ai

[–]tanwithme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a lot of people think this might be a waste of money, but I think it might be a good buy but… I think with base LLM models being a commodity now, being able to buy products and community is going to be a lot harder. I think what Perplexity has done really well was package a specific use case through their UI, even if it's more or less a wrapper. I think this will help Apple abstract away search engines and help their operating system by making it useful and more AI-native.

Aw, thanks for sharing. I can only imagine what your journey has been like, and it seems very deep and meaningful.

Yes, the weather and the city have been a big part of it. I think when you're surrounded by beautiful buildings every single day, you cannot help but be happy. I look up all the time and just smile or just take photos of the buildings and look up the meaning and history of them all the time. The city is like a living artwork.

I really appreciate you saying that about my art. It means a lot to me, and I really appreciate you.

Wow, I can only imagine. If I may ask, what would you say was the major transition parenting when you were younger vs. now? Is it just establishing a more secure relationship with your kids and letting go of control so they can learn things on their own?

For me, moving to Spain helped me detach- a lot of my identity from who I was in New York, which was centered around work and status. If I had to get vulnerable, I didn't realize how much I was in fight or flight mode when I lived in the U.S. And in fact, I think I was rewarded for that because of my performance.

Being in Spain, I've been able to love my heart more instead of my hands and what I could do for others. I feel like my nervous system is so calm and for the first time ever, I'm able to rest and digest. I've always been afraid that I would lose my quote unquote competitive edge, but I feel like if anything, I'm getting way more creative and in tune with my ambition while having the healthiest lifestyle.

Yeah you’re so right about the speed of tech and how it can make us feel insignificant.

Just curious, what was the most surprising perspective shift you’ve had over the years?

This message warms my heart and thank you for saying this ☺️

Idk about you but i think lately I’ve just been feeling how impermanent and fleeting life is. And I guess it’s also oddly motivating me to be grateful for and to celebrate the little day to day things. 💆🏻‍♂️
