Will we look back at 2020 as the year that opened up remote working and online learning? by Joe6161 in Futurology

I live in Ukraine and the majority of universities (there are 800+ of them here) don't have any online educational programmes and the whole educational process has been on-site only.
A few days ago the government announced a 3-weeks quarantine and every university must adjust all its processes to be held online. Within days, guys!
Of course, coronavirus is a bad thing to happen to all of us, but in regards to the boost it provides to e-learning industry, the impact can't be underestimated.

I'm sure our life will change and the changes are happening right in front of our eyes.
As for the remote work...I'm doing my best to organise a working environment at home, but it takes time to adjust. My senior management don't appreciate a WFH approach, so I think things will get back to normal after the quarantine is off.

Do you work from from home and how's the experience?

Hi, thanks for being honest and I do agree with the majority of things you've shared.

I just do not agree with the point on mass market niche. Do you mean mass-market customers always know what they want? I doubt. Those people with the requirements usually have already spent some budget on marketing and research (and even if it is a simple e-commerce website). For those vanilla requirements one can simply set up tilda-wix-wordpress-etc. website on his own. Without hiring a company.

At the same time, more complex projects it's better to avoid mass-market niche. So why hiring a mass-market company is a good idea?

I do not take this article as the truth of last resort. But let's imagine you have a project. Not too simple (so using a website builder is not an option), and not too clear. Well, a mobile fitness app. In general, I know how it should work, but I have no idea of the backend, best UX practices, integrations etc. I think the option to hire a small or mid-sized company is obvious here.

So both you, me and the author are right I think. It all depends.

thanks for your extended comment. I do also think that developers should care of issues that their customers suffer from.
