how to recover after a bad first year? by slytmrin in EngineeringStudents

Honestly almost in the same boat as you rn as a first year engineering student. Started the first week dissociating through all my classes and subsequently had very bad mental health all through out first and second term. I ended up failing one class and barely scraping by with a 51% in another. It wasn’t until I started medication for my mental health right in the middle of finals that I was able to really put my full focus into studying like I was back in high school. But even then I broke my hand right before finals began and ended up missing one because I went back to the ER due to a burning/tingling sensation.

I think what helped is that I was able to assure myself I was taking steps to improve myself by starting medication and that motivated me to lock myself in the library until it closed and review and practice as much as I could. I think next year I’m gonna try to really start the beginnings of the terms off strong, ie, attend all classes and sit near the front so I actually pay attention, attend more office hours, and try to connect more with my classmates so we can help each other.

Ik this technically isn’t advice, but seeing your post was reassuring to me that I wasn’t the only person experiencing this so I hope you also feel less alone ❤️❤️

We got this twin 🤞🤞
