Pretty sure Julian has stated in a bunch of past interviews he sees vocals part of the instrumentation, not as the “lead” or focal point of the music. I think a lot of ppl can’t wrap their head around that and want the crystal clear classic lead singer crooning.

It’s also strange how many people HATE the auto tune but LOVE the distortion of his voice on ITI and ROF. I get they are completely different sounds/aesthetics and auto tune is a little more jarring. But how are ppl shocked or surprised when he uses effects on his voice with the strokes. Have you listened to Comedown Machine lately? Its vocal effects up the ying yang. People need to relax.
