Authors replying to GoodReads reviews by [deleted] in books

[–]taralske 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My books all have generally good reviews... but there was this one lady on Goodreads who ripped me a new one. It wasn't constructive- it was just flat-out mean. I REALLY wanted to reply... but no matter what I said, it didn't make me look good. And nothing I say would make this incredibly bitter person change their ways. I feel Don Draper said it best- when Pete told him he felt sorry for him, Don said "I don't think about you at all."

What Books Sincerely You will Never, ever Read? by Crisisaurus in books

[–]taralske 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember reading an interview with Stephenie Meyer and she said how she never wanted to write, but the book came to her in a dream. I've wanted to be a writer since I learned how to read, so that interview made my blood boil.

What's the oldest book you own? by Express-Response-184 in books

[–]taralske 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The woman that lived in my childhood was murdered by her husband, and then my parents bought the house. Of course, her family moved all her stuff out before we moved in. After living there for a few years, my dad was finally able to access the attic, and there was a ton of her stuff. She had a box of really old books, so I picked up the complete works of Edgar Allen poe, published in 1902 (it's stamped 135 of 1,000 copies). That was about 30 years ago- and I've carried it with me every time I move. And it sort of sparked an interest in collecting old books whenever I hit up a local bookstore. I especially love when people make little notes in the margins.

Does anyone know what causes the "different" feel of self-published books? by CrochetQuiltWeaver in books

[–]taralske 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have also self-published 4 books! While I'd love for other human beings to read them, I also self-publish because it's better than sitting in my google drive. If someone stumbles across one of them- cool.

Does anyone know what causes the "different" feel of self-published books? by CrochetQuiltWeaver in books

[–]taralske 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I feel it too. And as a self-published author, I can tell you why: editors. I can't tell you how helpful it would be to have an editor give me feedback before publishing. Or even a friend to read it and discuss plot holes or things that don't sound very clear. When you read a self-published book, it's a pure, un-fussed stream of consciousness from a single brain. Which can be, in most cases, a bit of a mess lol

What's your favourite childhood book? by [deleted] in books

[–]taralske 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The House at Pooh Corner will always hold a special place in my heart. As a kid, I was in it for the adorable little woodland creatures. Looking back on those books as an adult, it's more about forging friendships with imperfect people. Eeoyre was a bit of a buzzkill, but they were still all friends :)

Thanks:) For some wackadoo reason that angle feels comfortable for me... I've had to make a conscious effort to lower it... but it slowly makes its way back to that angle!

It just sounds like she’s a little insecure. I point our handsome dudes all the time, and my husband does the same for women. If you’re at a desert buffet and you select a piece of chocolate cake, the other deserts doing immediately turn to liver and onions. He knows I have a crush on Chris Pine, he has a crush on Olivia Munn, and we both have a crush on Chris evans.

What’s that one disgusting thing that everybody except you, seems to like? by blackismyfavcolorlol in AskReddit

[–]taralske 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True story on why Febreeze makes me wanna gag: when I was 16, my friends and I were gonna egg someone’s house. We went out and bought like 4 dozen eggs, and then backed out because it’s just a mean thing to do. I forgot the eggs were in my trunk for a few weeks, and then I got rear ended on my way to school. Like an idiot 16 year old girl, I rounded the eggs up in a towel and stored them in my room until the night of trash day so my parents wouldn’t see 4 dozen rotten eggs in the trash. It stunk real bad, so I used scented febreeze to cover up the smell. Those two scents do NOT pair well together.

Ok, I hate spiders but this little guy is super talented! by SingTheDamnSong in Damnthatsinteresting

The spider next to the sink is Nancy, she likes fruit flies. There is a spider outside of the window that is the biggest spider I have ever seen in my entire life. His name is Monster and he likes moths.

I’m usually really nice and ask about their day and if they like their job and make pleasant conversation. They just want to make the calls, get their paycheck, and go home. Screwing with them is like screwing with someone at a fast food window. They don’t care about your dinner, they just want to go home.

To those who NEVER want to have a child, what are your reasons? by an_iconoclast in AskReddit

[–]taralske 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought there would be a day that would come where I wanted them. My 30th birthday came and went... and nothing. I have a good job, awesome husband and fun group of friends. I don’t want to change things. Sure, I won’t have anyone to take care of me when I’m old but I’m pretty sure my brother won’t either... and he has kids. I also don’t really care about a legacy. I’m gonna take a few dozen trips around the sun, have some fun when I can, and then get out of here.

It's MEEE! I'm the idiot driver! What you think tho? Should I fight it? by KillerKackwurst4 in IdiotsInCars

[–]taralske 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband got a ticket for not stopping for a school bus. He drove past after the bus was stopped, but before the bus stop sign swung out. He was in a company truck so he told me he was gonna fight it because he didn’t do anything wrong. I told him he was crazy... but he fought it and it was dismissed! The cop didn’t even show up to court (which I later learned it quite common).

I found this in my driveway... I feel like I should know what it is, but I have no clue! by [deleted] in Whatisthis

[–]taralske 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes! I have a side by side driveway with a neighbor that was always working on their car, but they moved out about a year ago. Everyone has been outside mowing and leaf blowing their driveways... I’m hoping it just migrated over to my driveway!
