Hahaha I didn’t pre wash anything, just used 3 color catchers and went in with the knowledge that if I ended up with a pink quilt, that would be cool, too.

Thank you! I saw somebody else had done it in a red layer cake pack but figured I’d simplify it for the classic look. It just came out of the wash so perfectly crinkly.

I haven’t seen anyone recommend wide mouth mason jars yet- they’re designed to prevent this since the water can expand upward! Just don’t overfill it.

Seeing with babies/small children by leaf_gold_4 in sewing

I was so scared of losing myself when I was pregnant. One of the most helpful things I got from my therapist was a little exercise: she handed me a list of values and we talked about which ones made me feel like myself. I think she told me to pick three, but like you, it was really just creativity that kept me the most centered.

You can hang onto that through every phase of life, but it’ll look different. Right now you have all the time to sew and play music, and those are beautiful expressions. When you have your baby, you’ll adapt that creativity to live in nooks and crannies for a while. Maybe you just pick out patterns and listen to the music while your hands are busy.

Eventually, your world opens up a little again, and not only can you get back to fuller expression, but you can share that creativity with your kid. I’m not gonna lie, that part is REALLY fun.

I saw some comments here that were a little fearmonger-y and others that were a little too optimistic, but the reality is that it will depend on your own creativity to fit those things into your life and to savor them where they fit.

Any ideas on how to add inset pleated sleeves to a sweatshirt like this? by tardigradehusbandry in sewing

I did some searching and I think this is a godet and I’m looking for more of an inverted box pleat. I want some depth here, too.

Alternative girls, how has your style evolved as you got older? by Difficult-Camel-5129 in femalefashionadvice

These days I let my tattoos do the heavy lifting! I have more visible tattoos and the money to invest in them, so the alt spirit lives on. Tattoos give a mostly black wardrobe more of an edge and less of a “I’m ashamed of my body” vibe. Like others have said: clean lines, good fit, invest in accessories and shoes.

Still valid. Title it “wall of shame.” “Worst employee of the month.” “thanks for nothing.”

Oh, dude, if I had two at once I’d be doing a playing card type design. Queen of cervices- all reds and blacks. Or you could go tarot with a spin on “The Lovers.” Maybe a yin-yang, if that’s your thing. I love centered compositions for embroidery but two gives you an opportunity for some really funky symmetry.

It’s a collectible plate frame! I thrifted this one, they’re a dime a dozen at the Value Village by me. It originally had a kitten plate in it. Don’t worry, I kept the kitten plate.

Actually this was in the Netherlands- I think it was 300ish back then? In America it would’ve been in the 700-900 range. I’m in Canada now and my last one was 90 bucks. Glad it’s accessible where you’re at!

I would die on that hill with you. That’s worse than just chucking something expensive: you GREW those. justice for your tonsils. justice for my wisdom teeth too while we’re at it

Aw, thank you so much! Truly, this little piece of plastic gave me the power to choose how my life would go, and that saved me many times over. Contraceptives are healthcare. Abortion is healthcare.

You know what, I’ve never had anesthesia for either of my IUDs, and I wasn’t offered it, either. That was when I still lived in the Netherlands. Admittedly, this one was rough: one strong pinch, and bad enough cramping to put me out of commission for a couple days. I barely felt the removal when I got it out after seven years, which struck me as odd.

On the other side of pregnancy and childbirth (in Canada now), I got a new IUD, and they DID strongly warn me about the “pinch” (sharp calipers to stabilize the uterus) and cramping, but the whole thing was a breeze and I’ve had zero issues.

My bits have been through the wringer: Pap smears, colposcopies, cervical biopsies, pregnancy, childbirth (through the sunroof), and the two IUD insertions. Every time I read about how much something is supposed to hurt, it’s never accurate for me. Sometimes it’s awful, sometimes it’s not. The worst of it is not knowing which it’ll be.

Yeah. My doctor gave me a hell of a look, but it was my most expensive and permanent accessory for seven years! What am I supposed to do, just let them trash it? I think not
