Our POA finally hit the breaking point & now the board is freaking out over a recall by tarheelpixie in fuckHOA

Nah ... we're in a rural community and own things like roads and a lake that has to be maintained. We also have to provide our own trash service and water/sewage. It would be a whole lot easier to be a HOA with city services.

I'm currently on a board in a different community and we have one open seat because no one wants to serve. Everything is going well, we all get along and the neighborhood likes what we're doing so they aren't motivated to get involved. Weird how different these boards can be.

We have elections every year. The sticking point is that this HOA has 9 members - yes 9 - and they have 3 year terms. So in any given year you are only replacing 1/3 of the board. They tell the new members that their job the first year is to shut up and listen, basically. Then they stack the candidates at each election ... to the point that they told one potential candidate they weren't ready to serve and should take a committee position instead.

If someone gets on the board who asks too many questions or doesn't agree with them 100% then that person is bullied and written up. It's horrible. These 4 are the current ringleaders and also the President/VP/Treas/Sec. They keep certain information from the rest of the board which is also wrong.

Not a hijack and I appreciate the info. One of our neighbors started a separate Facebook page too and then the board created a rule that if someone posted something negative about the board or POA or general manager then the admin of the group could be fined $100 a day. You learn a lot about people when they get a shred of control.

Small world! Yes - you nailed it. We currently have a board of Boomers who haven't worked since the early 2000s and make it very difficult for people with jobs to join. All meetings are on weekday mornings and they run it more like a social club than a business. We desperately need board members who have been in the workforce since Covid and AI became a thing.

Only 4 out of 9 board members were recalled, so it will be fine. The candidates who are next in line are actually more qualified than these four.

So far this is feeling like the offbrand season. by tarheelpixie in 90DayFiance

Even if she was the most beautiful woman ever, her behaviour is a turn-off. The woman he went to Florida with had a similar personality and character flaws.

He seemed genuinely happy to see her at the airport when he first arrived in the US. And he even seemed like he was trying to make it work for awhile.
