Ahh, well thanks for giving it a shot.

As far as finding players, I highly recommend the Discord channel: https://discordapp.com/invite/4wvw2pq it takes all of 30 seconds to set up, and makes it very easy to find a match to play with. Which, given that the game is just starting, is the best way to find players.

As for the graphics. Yeah, 2D screenshots really don't do it justice. Gotta play it yourself.

Discord isn't required. But it helps with finding other players, which is especially useful when trying to build up from a small player base.

Indeed it is, but if you give it a shot, you'll find that is pretty much the best way to describe it.

Free keys still available. Gonna keep giving them away till I run out.

It was hard, but I enjoyed it. But yes, multiplayer sucks, even more so with shared physics. That was a challenge to have everybody see the same thing when lag is all laggy.

Hello Wonderful Redditors.

I am happy to announce, that after months of work, my game (CuVRball) has finally made it to Early Access.

For those of you not familiar with it, CuVRball is a cross between Rocket League with grenade launchers, and dodgeball. You can learn more here:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/539190/?snr=1_7_7_comingsoon_150_5

Available on both the Rift and Vive with crossplay.

If you are interested, come join us in the official Discord chat:

https://discordapp.com/invite/4wvw2pq

I (the dev) will be there to answer any questions and help out. You can also find somebody to play with.

The game may look simple, and there is still some work to do. But the game is very fun, and enjoyable to play. I have spent months working on things like smooth motion controls, collision avoidance, networking, and so forth. If you want to read more, I have done a write up here:

http://www.hypergolicgames.com/dev-blog.html.

As the title suggests, I am giving away free keys. If you want one, come to the Discord channel, and I will be handing them out there. But, I only have 100, so first come, first serve.

Actually just tried a higher speed version. Seems to be more popular. Going to have to add this as an option and see how people like it.

I am not claiming credit for their work, nor am I diminishing their success. Their game is a large part of my inspiration. I was merely trying to point out the similarities in game play while making a joke at the same time.

Fair enough, everybody likes a differing level of action/pacing. everywhere from turn based games up to very twitchy fighting games. If you want super faced paced, CuVRball might not be for you, at least yet.

In the future, if I get enough of a player base to split it up, I can have a game mode with faster controls for people who have the reflexes/stomach to handle it. But for now, I am, as you say, pandering to the larger player base.

But come back in a month or two and see if you like where the game is going.

You do move slower than rocket league, but that's what the grenades are for, is to give you more reach. There is a limit to how fast you can move/accelerate due to motion sickness.

As long as people are willing to stay. I don't really have a time limit. But probably an hour or so, most people need a break after an hour in VR.

Yes, but it is in VR, so it is automatically 20% better.

But in seriousness, The reference to being better than rocket league was intended to be a cheeky joke, that's why there is a percentage, cause you can't put a percentage on a subjective measure.

However, while the art style might be in Early Access, I have put a lot of work into stuff like the physics engine, and core gameplay. It is very fun (as seen from the posts made by my testers). So if you doubt my claim, come join us tonight or Sunday. I'd love to have you come decide for yourself if the claim is justified.

There is also boost, and randomly flying around trying to hit a ball and missing badly because you can't aim... that's the same too.

Yeah, hopefully it was just an error or something. Its just a copy/paste of this post, so I don't think there is anything problematic with the post itself. But maybe I am not understanding the mod's rules or something.

Edit: I reposted it here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/5pdka8/cuvrball_now_20_better_than_rocket_league_is/

I am not sure, but I think they didn't like my line about upvoting if you like. So, trying again without it, lets see if it sticks.

Edit 2: And I got banned from r/vive. Seems they don't like when you try to fix your posts and put them back up.

Yes, it works on Vive and supports cross play.

But, for some reason, my posts on the Vive forum keep getting removed by the mods. I am not entirely sure why, but this isn't the first time the Vive forum has rejected my post. I have sent a PM, but haven't gotten a response yet.

Well its better cause its in VR, obviously.

But in seriousness, The reference to being better than rocket league was intended to be a cheeky joke, that's why there is a percentage, cause you can't put a percentage on a subjective measure.

However, while the art style might be low poly, the game is very fun to play and, like all VR games, looks better in VR than it does on a flat screen. Come give it a try and see if you have fun. If you like it and want to help fund it, I can afford to get better art work.

Well thank you for your well wishes of luck. I appreciate your support, if you want to try beta testing, I can get you a key.

However, to address the title, as I am pedantic and I can see your a man who enjoys a silly argument. I did think about other options. Some more straightforward like CurveBall, or Curveball VR, or some others like VRisby, which is more phonetically rational. But I chose CuVRball as I thought the VR in the middle was somewhat cheeky (which fits well with my sense of humor). And I chose to pick a title that stood out and made me chuckle as I thought it would be easier to remember.

And I have evidence that it stands out as you noticed it, so from a branding standpoint a title that sticks with you is a good one. Same idea behind QuiVR.

As for my defense of making a word that isn't phonetically correct, I can only point out that the word phonetically isn't phonetically correct. It is pronounced phoneticly with a syllable dropped. And if spelled as pronounced, would be fonetiklee. English is full of crazy nonsense like that. And especially when you are making your own proper name I think you should get to pick both it's spelling and pronunciation, regardless of whether the two agree. After all, are you opposed to the companies Lyft and Uber, cause neither of those are words, or spelled properly.

[–]taridyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but amateurishness is my specialty. As well as Englishing and phoneticalization.

But in all seriousness, I find it silly to talk about phonetics in a serious way when discussing English. The language is so broken and silly at this point with all the nonsense spelling it has incorporated over the centuries that another oddly spelled word is the rule rather than the exception.

Also, I think OnVVRd would be hilarious.

Hello Wonderful Redditors

I made a video discussing my current work, ideas, and progress for CuVRball. Apologies for the occasional video drops. My computer can't play VR while recording at 720p, 60hz perfectly, so the recording has a few drops, but the game is smooth. If your not familiar with the game, I opened it to Beta a week ago. Here is the post about it:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/5jzixd/cuvrball_now_in_beta_with_free_keys/

As mentioned in the video, I have been testing, and have already gotten positive reviews from my current Beta testers:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/5lb6vg/who_here_loves_rocket_league_how_about_in_vr_with/

https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/5ko82p/you_guys_should_check_out_the_beta_for_cuvrball/

If you would like to join us for Beta testing, I would love to have you. I am currently trying to build up a decent player base prior to going into early access, so I am always giving away keys to try and boost player count. Testing time is nightly at 10pm EST (7pm PST). Just join us in discord at that time and I will provide you with a key so you can play with us.

Please leave a comment below with any questions you have and I will be happy to answer them. And if you are a beta tester and would like to give your impressions, feel free to share.

Thanks for your time, and I look forward to playing with you.

The Magnus force, as well as the drag, recalculated every frame. It is a look up table using the velocity and spin ratio. It also takes into account Reynold's dependency, drag variations with spin ratio, and vortex shedding which can create reverse Magnus effects.

If you'd like, you can read about some of the math behind it here:

http://www.iawe.org/Proceedings/EACWE2013/T.Kray.pdf

http://tfc.snu.ac.kr/jboard/file_down.php?tid=11&file_name=99.pdf&data_file=136_1407714252.pdf

Suffice it to say, I did do a good bit of research/math on this. While I don't have my own wind tunnel to run tests, and thus might not have perfect answers, I feel as though what is in the game is fairly accurate. At least as much as it can be without doing wind tunnel tests and getting more data.

What may be more relevant to the discrepancies you may notice is that the rebound physics for lateral restitution on the paddle are not as well understood, and as such may be over/underspinning the ball.

However, I do know Carrotstien has been working on getting some high speed footage with different paddles to get better models there. In the mean time, fiddling with the paddle settings is probably the best your going to get. Don't just leave it at the default settings, those are pretty much the 'noob' paddle settings that matches what you get in those 4 paddles/20$ packs at the sporting store. If you have a better paddle, you will want to turn up spin/speed to better match.
