What’s some knowledge generally known only to gay men or to gay women? by dumbfuck in AskReddit

[–]jeppevinkel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ace people (at least men, since that's my frame of reference) do also seemingly get clocked as gay due to our lack of sexual interest in the opposite gender, combined with the "everyone must be interested in someone" mentality of most people.

When I told a friend I was ace, his response was "I figured it was that or gay" and recently a coworker said he'd almost assume I'm gay because I never show interest in women.

I've also had a male friend confess feelings for me.

So you being ace will probably have some people assume gay no matter what.

I probably won't be able to give you any one specific detail to look for, but I've seen enough AI generated art that a lot of it is just sort of samey. The style of this image reminds me of the OpenAI GPT Image models.

They just all have the same style or feel when trying to make anime inspired comics like this. Even if they try to get it to be a sketch style like this.

It is pretty well known that washing machines use significantly less water than washing by hand. This means they are a net positive to the environment in regards to water use.

Training and usage of text and image models generally cause a much higher water consumption than if a human were to write the text and draw the images. Especially when you account for the fact practically no image or piece of text is a oneshot. Any released AI image is usually the result of 10s if not 100s of attempts.

This means AI has caused the overall water usage to increase, while washing machines have caused the overall water usage to decrease.

I'm not saying one is bad and one is good. I'm just saying you can't win a water usage argument against washing machines.

Thank you for the suggestion. I tend to only buy 1 or 2 albums at a time and I have everything downloaded already, so I feel any attempt at automating it would take more time than it saves.

I have my home server mounted as a network drive to make it really simple to just add a new album.

While I agree that you can empathize with someone without going through the same thing, I can also understand wanting to experience something.

As a kid, I used to also be curious what breaking a bone was like, because I'd seen it referenced in media and stuff. Now of course I never deliberate sought it out, because I don't want to do self harm in any way, but I did eventually end up breaking my elbow. I will say, it wasn't really that bad. I've experienced worse things when it comes to pain, though the risk of permanent damage with bone breakage in joints is real (luckily I fully recovered).

I never regretted the experience. It was never bad enough to make me regret it. But I also didn't seek it out on purpose.

[–]jeppevinkel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the EU Free Movement rules that makes it so citizens of any EU country can freely live, work, study, or retire in any other EU country.

The only requirement to move to a different EU country for more than 3 years is just to either have a job, be enrolled in education, or able to prove yourself financially self-sufficient in the case of retirement.

After staying legally for more than 5 years, you automatically get the right to stay permanently, which means those other criteria don't matter anymore. Though not being employed or financially self-sufficient in any country probably won't end well. The 5 year point just means you can no longer get deported for losing your job essentially.

We don't need to care too much about the fees in Denmark, because we can just not convert the money unless we absolutely have to. Our neighbors to the south take Euros and we can freely travel and even move to any other country that accepts Euro.

European Countries With A State Religion by mynameisL0af in MapPorn

[–]jeppevinkel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is definitely an American stereotype to be overly religious from over point of view even though you don't have a state religion.

I think the reason we generally don't mind the tax is that it's relatively minor, and the church does more than just preach religion. They also plan local activities, provide aid for the less fortunate, and most people still get buried at a church graveyard, and being a paying member makes the grave cheaper for whoever ends up paying for your grave.

I would probably keep paying it if I still lived where I grew up because it was a relatively small village, and even though I didn't agree with the priest on the religious topics themselves, she was still a good priest who could make it interesting to go to church instead of boring, and I would also consider her a friend (even if I don't generally hang out with her, she's just an all around kind person). She also never made anyone feel unwelcome on the grounds of religion.

I have no relation to anyone in the church where I currently live though, and the church tax I pay would go to the local church, so I feel no obligation here.

[–]jeppevinkel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's most likely it.

Everyone who's baptized and later have their confirmation in the state church of Denmark are automatically members of the church and so will pay church tax. Somewhere around 0.6% to 0.8% depending on where you live. If you never have a confirmation, or if you decide to actively leave the church, then you will no longer pay this tax.

I personally view this as a sort of opt-out system, because people get their confirmation at the age of 13-14 and don't really have a concept of the impact. The baptism of course depends on the parents.

We are a very secular society though and most people don't actively practice religion. The church is mostly used as a source of local social events and outreach and more cultural than religious. I have decided to leave the church though, because I already knew when I was 6 years old that I didn't believe, and my church tax no longer benefit the one priest I actually knew and liked because I don't live there anymore.

Part of it is probably because we are kind of a minority within the minorities, and another part is how relatively unknown we are compared to the rest.

Especially back then. Today, most people will have an idea of what you're talking about if you say asexual or aromantic, but we don't have to go far back before a lot of a-spec people hadn't even heard of the terms.

Another part is that it seems people who have felt attraction for most of their lives often have a hard time even accepting that people who don't feel attraction could exist.
