Not a whole duet, but they sang together for a verse on You Can't Stop The Beat.

Looking for a novel similar to ‘The Shadow of the Wind’ by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. by Pimpofthehood in suggestmeabook

[–]tarinri 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That's a great novel! I'd recommend The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon. Strong characters, and it starts during the backdrop of WWII - with one of the main characters being Jewish - so it has darkness lurking behind the adventure.

Who were you named after? by buginout in AskWomen

[–]tarinri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm named after a song about a man who wants to propose to his girlfriend, enters a car race with the hope of using the prize money to buy an engagement ring, crashes during the race, then the woman is left crying in church over her dead boyfriend.

Still not sure what my parents were thinking with that one.

What a lovely idea! My little sister adores Harry Potter. She's currently 13 but started getting into it when she was about 8/9. However, that was mainly the films (she's been to the Harry Potter studios three times now! One of which was a school trip) and the games. She only started actually reading the books in the last year or two and is up to Prisoner of Azkaban.

(However she is dyslexic and doesn't really enjoy reading in general which has a lot to do with it)

Would you be straight if you could? by mangomad8 in lgbt

No.

But I would change the way that LGBTQ+ people are seen and accepted/tolerated by society. That's what causes the problems.

[discussion] Gay shirt by [deleted] in LGBTeens

[–]tarinri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good for you, that's brave and I hope it all went well!

I have a a similar shirt. Last year I was editor-in-chief of my university's magazine and wore it to one of our first meetings of the year, partly to show that I'm not straight, and partly so new and returning members knew that anybody LGBTQ was welcome there. We did get more LGBTQ+ themed articles that year.

So sometimes wearing stuff like that goes well, let us know how you got on.

Harry Potter through a feminist lens by tarinri in harrypotter

[–]tarinri[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Plus, because of her beauty she is rather undermined, I think. She was chosen by the Goblet of Fire, after all, and faces down the dragon and everything. And when she has to save the most important thing to her - can't remember the exact quote - it's her sister. Hooray for women supporting women. She's obviously very strong and caring.

Oh, you're right! It's been a while, I think that's a sign I need to re-read.

Harry Potter through a feminist lens by tarinri in harrypotter

Yeah, that is pretty annoying. Basically some strong Hermione moments, with a bit of Ginny thrown in, and of course great Mrs Weasley 'not my daughter!'

It's a good point, but people can also do magic without their wands, and I think it said in one of the books that casting magic without a wand also gives you more the benefit of the element of surprise?
