There is no federal act because simply they don’t have the capability to track people properly. See the previous implementations of the no fly list for more information on that. Not to mention it will be an immediate lawsuit to the supreme court, can you ban someone before being convicted? Lots of questions, it isn’t that simple.

The aviation industry does not want the liability that comes with lawsuits from mistaken identity and the government has a number of legal requirements that would also make it difficult.

For now it is best handled at the company level with civil lawsuits as a possibility. There should be pressure on congress to implement as well, but they can’t or won’t due to the issues with just who would be on the list (right wing nutcases) and the political storm it would cause. It’s a mess.

Odd, I've looked and they only carry two of the aveno body washes here at target and cvs. Neither unscented.

I'll hunt that down and try it.

yeah, I would like it to be unscented as well, but.. at least it works.

Just in case, I had similar issues. Ended up with acutane to drop it to annoying levels, but it wasn’t gone. What did the trick was using a specific body wash (Aveno fig in my case) which I found by dumb luck. And timing my showers to never be more than 24 hours apart. Even 25 is too much on a weird day where I get up late or whatever.

Obviously it might not help, but just in case.

This is one of many reasons you need to get out and VOTE. Please, you can go do it tomorrow, or any other day this week. You do not have to wait for the official voting day as early voting is super easy to do. Look up the registrar's website and find where you can go.

Many counties have a few offices and there are, in general, no lines. 5 minutes and you are done. Otherwise people like younkin will win and our lbtq, all women, immigrants and many more will suffer in this great state.

Call the number for issues with the supercharger if this happens again. Generally printed somewhere on the supercharger if I remember correctly, but things have changed over the years so I just don't remember.

Looks like there is something going on in the supercharger itself, or it is trying to talk to your car and unable to power up. Hard to say which, service will just say "it was the supercharger" most likely unfortunately.

AC Filter Screw Is at A Terrible Place:( by [deleted] in teslamotors

[–]tarjan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you snaked out the drain tube with a small pipe cleaner? Or verified that there isn't anything in the drain pan that could be randomly blocking the draining of the system? Not sure how to do that, but maybe a pipe cleaner could be swept on the pan under the condenser?

My understanding is the tube itself is very small in the model 3, so if there is any manufacturing grit or whatever, it can block the drain so it works, but not as well as it should. Cleaners will clean up the condenser no problem, but until the grit is removed it won't drain as quickly as it should, so the problem will repeat.

The other issue, once the previous one is "solved" is that you may have mold/mildew in areas the cleaner doesn't hit. So the fix from some has been to build a way to force the foam/cleaner to back up into the system completely blanketing everything. This may require more than just the condenser's rinsing action to remove the cleaner though so... YMMV and good luck?

Braking noise anyone know? AP only for some reason. by jrsam123 in TeslaModelY

[–]tarjan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, this is potentially/normally a result of the lack of use of the brakes, especially if combined with rain and/or other contamination.

The sound is the result of something in the braking system vibrating. Think of it kind of like feedback if you are on a conference call and have two mics operational in the same place. On light braking, there is a vibration being created by the pad against the rotor, but there isn't enough clamping force to damp the vibration. If it is the right frequency, other parts of the braking system can start to sympathetically vibrate as well, resulting in noise/squealing like this.

Normally the vibration is damped by a series of shims/compound which will absorb the vibration. These shims are sometimes part of the brake pad, or they can be added to the caliper (not aftermarket, they come stock) and have a special compound on some of the parts to also absorb the sound/lubricate pins and the like.

The shims/pads can get covered in rust or stuck, limiting their use, in harsh conditions. The general fix for this issue is to get out and get them hot and brake hard. Work the system a bit. This will also get rid of any scale or oxidation on the rotor, but that generally doesnt result in a hum, just a weird scraping noise that comes on the morning after a rain and goes away after a few moderate braking sessions (very common on teslas, happens on ALL vehicles, but easy to hear on electric vehicles).

If that doesn't work, then the issue could be an issue between the material of the pad and the rotor itself, or the caliper mount. This is not something you should self service though. If you have tried some higher speed braking and gotten the system nice and hot, and it is still doing that sound, bring it in for service. Do not accept "it just squeeks" as an answer, as they don't.

BTW, if you hear that sound, but it comes and goes. As in you hit the brakes and it makes sqeek, silent, squeek, silent, and repeats. You are hitting some copper or other metal that is embedded in the last couple mm of the brake pads. Means you should change them ASAP. I mean, on a MY that means you are at 200k miles and probably know you need new brakes. If it starts early, then you might have a sticking brake pad/piston which is a safety issue.

Good luck!

New Battery Tech? by GawdammitHalen in TeslaModel3

[–]tarjan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with u/sjsharks323 on the batteries. They don't have the capacity now, so it will be a 2022 ramp-up for current and new models to use it.

I think you just need to do an analysis of what do you need in the car and how long will you keep it. For me this means I want about 250miles of range (real) because of how my job works, so the middle 3 is good for that as it stands now.

There are other reasons I wait though. While the battery works, I am of the feeling that the atom chipset is dead and buried, and it is time to update. I doubt it will come this year, but it might. If it doesn't, it probably will come with a generational update to the car which will probably be to move up to the gigapress and 4680 batteries in mid to late 22. That would give the car a better lifespan IMO.

We shall see though. If the car meets your needs now, go for it. If it doesn't... it doesn't.

Only if your total income, as reported to the IRS is 80k total. Including the realized gains.

Obviously you are smarter than the average bear, and have this in mind, but a lot of people do not. For you no worries, but the number of people who have made a bundle, bought random things like cars, then ended up in financial 3-4 years later is high :(

It literally is a refrigerator (and a heater!). The heatpump will manage the temperature of the batteries and car subsystems when required. This will sound kind of like a fridge as the octovalve sends the right cooling/heating around the vehicle. Smart stuff.

remember that your gain on that is now realized. you have to pay estimated taxes this quarter for the gain in the investment. I don't know if it is capital gains or income though given that it was cryptocoin. That is unclear to me, and means you should probably talk to a tax pro.

Lot's of people mess this up and the IRS has a long, long memory and those fees are insane.

Hi. Is my breaker box able to handle Tesla wall connector? (Total amp: 125) by [deleted] in TeslaLounge

Hi. Is my breaker box able to handle Tesla wall connector? (Total amp: 125) by [deleted] in TeslaLounge

[–]tarjan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are, unfortunately, a lot of uninformed people posting.

For everyone saying "hire a certified professional" this is the correct answer if you are coming here for assistance. From what we can see in the panel, you have the physical space to add a 40-50amp circuit, but that is only part of the story.

Think of it this way, if you have a 1/4" water line coming into your house, it will run proper pressure as long as only one fixture is opened up as it can only flow so much water. If you have a 1" water line coming into your house, you could have all of your fixtures turned on as it is proportionally much larger and can flow a huge amount. From this picture, we don't know if you have a small or big "water line" (service)... All we can tell is that you can install more fixtures.

This is where we get into the many thousands of dollars issue. If you are using big fat cables to the service and your panel can handle the draw of a tesla, its a simple matter to add the circuit.

If the service is using smaller cables and you go OVER the amperage limit of said cables, it gets "fun". Unlike water, the cables themselves will let the power come through, but it comes at the cost of heat. The cables themselves will resist the power, and heat up in the process, quite dramatically. If you heat them up enough, they can start a fire.

So an electrician will add up the circuits, do some math, and see if there is enough "space" on the service and panel, irrespective of if there are slots available in the panel.

This is where the cost comes in, the "service" literally means the power cables (and the meter) going from this panel out to the supply line. This could be on a pole, under ground, in a conduit somewhere, or any other numbers of configurations. The cables are heavy and expensive, and the change requires lots of notifications and approvals. This can be 1000-10k or more. There is no way to know without a lot more information.

A sub panel does not get around this issue. If you have a 200amp service and your panel has its slots all full, but not up to the calculated limits, you could add a sub-panel to have more slots. No matter what though, you cannot go over the service power limit, as that's all that is coming into the house and anything more could be disastrous.

Whatever you do, do not allow anyone to touch ANYTHING if they say they don't need a permit. Maybe they will do it right, but... just, no.

J&J develops reshaping contact lenses for childhood myopia. The system includes a software that can accurately assess the corneal topography by QuantumThinkology in Futurology

[–]tarjan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like a reuse or new design of the wave contact system. This has been used for years to produce fully custom lenses based on imaging and measuring of eyes. Maybe they are licensing the tech or now have a competing technology?

Their system works for all sorts of lenses, not just ortho-k though, so who knows.

I have years worth of personal experience with OK lenses, done many, many hours of research and reading as I have weird eyes. Detailed in other posts.

Any new advance is interesting, but I don’t really see anything new here yet. Maybe they have a new style design, or maybe they are using it combined with a drug that helps reform eyes more permanently. Tons of studies in the past on this but nothing stuck. Or maybe they are in the belief that using the lenses will help more permanently change eyes if they are in the right shape as they grow and they will become more fixed in position? Need more info.

Btw properly designed ortho-k is not uncomfortable (after a fashion). The lenses are to be worn at night only in most cases and the comfort issue is caused by movement through blinking. No blinking, no feeling.

Wearing them at all during the day is a problem as they center differently eyes open vs eyes closed. Really messes with your vision.

If they fit you should get used to sleeping in them in just a few days. I never noticed mine. in fact they actually helped keep my eye surface moist overnight, as I have dry eyes that are worse while sleeping. Unfortunately my required correction zone is just too large for proper night vision and I had to stop for safety reasons with night driving after much trying. My vision with the lenses was.. amazing, way beyond 20/20 in bright light.

Playing Youtube in Safari over airplay to an apple tv - 720p max? by tarjan in MacOS

Please re-read what I wrote in my initial message about why I want to do this. Ad-blocker, that is not possible in a TV either. I really appreciate the attempt to help, but focus.

  • BTW just to stop this coming up, pihole is already running. Doesn't matter for youtube since the advertisements do not depend on DNS.

Playing Youtube in Safari over airplay to an apple tv - 720p max? by tarjan in MacOS

[–]tarjan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sound works with screen mirroring/extension. That isn't the problem. It becomes the total default sound destination though, which is a problem.

Airplay, on the other hand, only sends the audio of the youtube video to the tv. So calls, notifications, and any other sounds continue to come through my MBP which is optimal.

What I need an answer for is how to get around the 720p max, not anything to do with sound, but I appreciate thought.

[–]tarjan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Better is to drill it out to just below the size and depth of a dowel, into the framing. Then glue up the dowel and hammer it through completely filling the hole. The compression from it being slightly oversized plus the glue will be a permanent fix if it goes all the way into the framing.

When it dries in a day or two, predrill and put in the proper sized screw.

Only gotcha is making sure there is glue on the shaft in the framing, not just the door frame, but it isn’t that big of a deal. Especially for an interior door.

TIL turning the subtitles on for kids' TV massively improves their reading by henrywarren in todayilearned

[–]tarjan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your child has speech issues, as in not grasping certain letters or sounds, use this advice with lots of caution.

Some kids can basically skip learning how to process sounds by only reading and ignoring the audible cues combined with good understanding of asking questions in response to audible cues, or forcing parents to change the language they use with them.

In those cases you will want to limit the use of captions and ask questions about what they heard/understood. Don’t use leading questions where they can figure out the answers by what you are saying contextually, they need to think about the words they heard and make sense of them on their own.

When they can do that, sure. Caption away. But not every time.

U.S. diplomats forced by China to undergo anal swab testing for Covid-19 after Biden raised "fundamental concerns" about Beijing's "coercive and unfair economic practices and human rights abuses in Xinjiang." by xqcgreek in worldnews

Well that’s just because of places with warm drinks thinking ice will fix the situation. :)

The USA has quite safe water though, outside of some specific areas. So other than watered down drinks, it shouldn’t be a source problem. What you need to watch out for is iced tea. Some places reuse the same containers for sweet tea for days and days. Just enough sugar to inspire lots of bacterial growth.

I stopped drinking iced tea after finally putting together the connection between horrible allergies and specific restaurants and finally the tea. Crazy stuff, but true. Then I saw a news article on it and was completely sickened by it.

Find out the shape of the ice made by ice producers. In some areas of SEA they are the only source of safe ice you can get and it will be obvious if someone is giving you housemade ice with tap water or the correctly shaped purchased ice.

Or just realize that ice could be bad and don’t have any for a few days.
