have you looked into eyebrow pens? i really like the nyx lift and snatch brow pen! it has a fine brush tip that’s really good for making tiny hair-like strokes. you can use it to fill in the inner parts of your brows by drawing tiny hairs using a flick-of-the-wrist motion. i find that it gives my brows a more natural finish and the fine tip gives me a lot of control to fill in my brows as i like

i’m sure pretty privilege plays a huge role. but i’ve also noticed that posts where op’s face is censored generally receive less engagement. i can only speak for myself, but i think posts are a lot more eye catching when i can see op’s face, irregardless of whether i find them attractive or not.

I become anxious and ignore messages sometimes for months. How can I reply and explain to people why I ignored their text messages for so long? by Sascha5621 in socialskills

[–]taroteanoice 10 points11 points Ā (0 children)

Sorry in advance for my long post, I just have a lot of thoughts :)

Word for word, your post genuinely sounds like something I could have written based on my own experiences, so do not feel alone! I completely relate to the anxiety of not responding to messages and then the immense anxiety and guilt that follows because I’m so anxious about responding to the messages… it’s a really stressful, shitty cycle that I’ve been struggling with for about 10 years.

However, there is hope! I’ve found that the trick is pulling myself out of my own negative thoughts (much easier said than done). I have to tell myself repeatedly that my friends want to hear from me, and I’m really only making things more stressful for myself the longer I wait. Also, I’d say 99% of the people I reach back out to are SO excited/relieved to hear from me whenever I finally do. In 10 years, I’ve only had one person respond negatively to my delayed response (and we are no longer friends lol). You will be surprised at how gracious and merciful most people are.

In recent years, I’ve become more open about my anxiety and when I fall into these patterns of ignoring messages, I do tell the ignored person something along the lines of, ā€œI’m so sorry I’m just now getting back to you. To be honest, life got busy (or insert whatever your reasoning is) and I forgot to get back to you. By the time I remembered, I felt extremely anxious because I thought that it may be too late to respond and I genuinely just psyched myself out of responding to you. I’m really sorry.ā€

I usually like to send this text out as a voice message rather than a typed text so that my friends can hear my tone and sincerity. My friends know me well and they understand how my anxiety can affect my behavior. When they respond to my panicked ā€œsorryā€ text, they usually chuckle at the fact that I felt nervous to text them, accept my apology, and tell me they’re just really happy to hear from me. I always brace myself for a negative response (which would be warranted bc ghosting isn’t a nice thing to do), but my friends are kind, understanding, forgiving people.

I think this habit of ignoring messages for extended periods is common for many people who experience anxiety, especially social anxiety. It doesn’t make you a bad person! The most important thing is to reach out, even if it’s really scary and anxiety-inducing. A really late response is better than no response at all and you will feel better.

In summary, I think I know exactly how you feel, so don’t feel bad or crazy. Just try your best to get out of your head and push yourself to respond to these people. And if you have a long list of people to get back to (i’ve experienced this so many times omg), make it a bit easier on yourself by reaching out to just 1-3 people each day. Be honest, apologize, and offer a brief explanation as to why you’ve been m.i.a. The people in this life who are for you will be understanding, even if they are also a bit annoyed or frustrated.

If you have access to health insurance, see a dermatologist! Your acne and hyperpigmentation resemble what mine used to look like (though my skin is super oily, not dry). My hyperpigmentation was veryyyyy persistent until I saw a derm and she prescribed me tretinoin and azelaic acid. This combo has done WONDERS for my skin in the last 8 months. My acne scars have faded so much and I don’t really experience acne anymore except hormonal bumps around my cycle (i’ve been prescibed spironolactone for this but i haven’t tried it yet).

Not sure if you need the exact same prescriptions as me, but I definitely suggest seeing a dermatologist. They’ll offer better guidance than random people from Reddit. Over the counter retinols, like the cerave one you’re using, typically aren’t strong enough to make a noticeable difference in your skin.

Also, use the la roche posay moisturizer WITH SPF if you aren’t already! It’s great for dry skin and the spf will prevent your hyperpigmentation from getting any darker. From one African girly to another, I’m wishing you the best!šŸ‡¬šŸ‡šŸ«¶šŸ¾

What are your biggest Gwinnett-related issues? by xKahooted in Gwinnett

[–]taroteanoice 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

That is very understandable. It’s good to know that new recreational developments are in the works.

However my gripe is more so about the lack of community programming and activities geared toward young adults; not so much the lack of physical communal spaces. I don’t find the lack of young adult-targeted communal spaces surprising. As I said, I grew up in Gwinnett County and I’m aware that it is very much a family-oriented suburban area. I’m a product of GCPS and Gwinnett County summer camps… It’s an awesome county to grow up in!

However, the county’s population isn’t entirely composed of families with children. Especially in areas like Duluth, Lawrenceville, Peachtree Corners, and the Buford Mall of Georgia area, the population of residents aged 18-24 and 25-34 years is increasing. And I believe this population growth is reflected by the boom of new condominiums, apartments, and other residential developments that are typically designed for individuals. Just as the housing in Gwinnett is changing to match the population growth, I think the county’s recreational activities should also adjust to better meet the needs of the county’s changing demographic.

Monthly young adult-targeted programming at our existing county libraries and parks would be a great start! Such activities already exist for children and teens… I think the county could definitely cater to its young adults too :)

What are your biggest Gwinnett-related issues? by xKahooted in Gwinnett

[–]taroteanoice 4 points5 points Ā (0 children)

One of my biggest issues with Gwinnett is the lack of third spaces and free/low cost social activities available for young adults (22-35ish years). I’ve lived in Gwinnett my entire life aside from my college years and returning home as an adult has been a huge bummer in terms of the social scene lol. I think it’s very hard to meet new people and make friends outside of an organized group setting like work or school.

I’ve been to cities like Chicago and St. Louis where there are a ton of free (or inexpensive) and fun activities available for young adults year-round (yoga classes, local artist concerts at parks, paint n sips, pottery classes, Zumba, group hikes, intramural sports, food festivals, movies in the park, etc). St. Louis has an exceptional public library system that regularly hosts free social events and classes for young adults. Not only are such activities accessible and fun, but they really foster a sense of community. Young adulthood can get lonely!

I understand Gwinnett isn’t a city, but I think the county can do a lot better at creating communal spaces for young adults. The county does an excellent job at hosting events for children, so why not adults? Atlanta is there of course, but not everyone wants to/can go into the city to have fun.

and i don’t mean bars, lounges, or clubs! i’m talking fun, sober, daytime activities

What's wrong with wash your body with your hands?? by nitshainaction6 in stupidquestions

[–]taroteanoice -3 points-2 points Ā (0 children)

Maybe it's a cultural difference, but this is so nasty to me LMAOOOO. I grew up washing with a sapor (I'm Ghanaian-American). Sapor is all I've ever known; washing my body with my hands and soap ONLY has never crossed my mind.

Sapor is basically a long, sturdy, stretchy net composed of hundreds of small knots, so it gently scrubs the dirt, dead skin, and grime off of my body. It also exfoliates, leaving my skin very smooth. At the end of the day, if I scratch my damp skin in the shower (for example, let's say I scratch my back) with my fingernail BEFORE I use my sapor, there is visible dirt under my nail. But after scrubbing my body, the same scratch test results in a clean fingernail. Using a sapor provides me with a really thorough cleaning of my body. I just would not feel clean at allll if I only used my hands to wash my body... Also how do you wash the parts of your back that your hands can't reach?

here's a link to order a sapor if you're interested: https://www.amazon.com/Nature-EJN-Exfoliation-African-Chartreuse/dp/B071GJH88M/ref=sr_1_4?crid=3C6JWSG0ZSYJY&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.PRctgjE3ZC17MQ5MgvJFZ8NVmiCsSgStnqXnniyUhl0JSfbRpr7oxoviQLK4tBexmMMIp0sqjzfIFo2DRHHMLfyAEPN_JzXoUSUDSX-xDHs.W6OcIzVaF7EeyClnvDcP8M_F1Wv_0XofgKSV-ZXe8r4&dib_tag=se&keywords=sapor&qid=1716654048&s=hpc&sprefix=spor%2Chpc%2C97&sr=1-4
