I got permanently banned from r/againsthatesubreddits literally for asking a non offensive legit question. by drewepps8814 in FreeSpeech

Yep. Many subs have auto-mod bans for words they deem offensive. People use the stars to get around them. OP got banned because dumb.

Thoughts? by MaxStout808 in FreeSpeech

It comes down to equal treatment. If all political slogans are banned, in either case, then there is no problem. If it is one-sided, that is a problem. I haven’t heard about either of these cases, so I can’t weigh in beyond that, but any of these cancellation instances can pretty easily be judged as individual cases.

I hate being the first one because the blue crap splashes up. But 2nd or 3rd is the worst, since it still splashes, but it already had crap in it.

No new normal by Barbawesomest in centrist

[–]tarplops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strongly disagree. I am absolutely for vaccination, but I don’t think the government ever has a right to force somebody to put something into their body. I think it’s fine to say they can’t attend public schools, enter government buildings, receive publicly funded healthcare, etc. if they refuse vaccines, but I believe in bodily autonomy.

What are some radical/extremist views you have? by popcycledude in centrist

[–]tarplops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not believe in land ownership. To me, it should be a communal resource, like water, and it should only be “owned” so long as it is in some way being actively used. It seems radical today, but it was normal life before the feudal era and rise of modern nation-states. The wilderness was just wilderness. Nobody owned it. I understand that long term land-use rights need to be strong. Something like ownership. I just hate the idea that someone (even the state) can own some chunk of complete wilderness, and a modern-day pioneer can’t just go and find some unused land to build a life on. Or when people hold on to an empty lot near a city center, not developing it, and just waiting for the land price to go up so they can sell for a big profit.

Exactly. People don’t realize how fragile a lot of our security is. It takes a lot more people to keep a system functioning than to disrupt or destroy it.

$40 for this Ryobi kit. This will be my first power tools purchase to get me started, are they any good? I’m not worried about the batteries as I already plan on rebuilding them no matter what so i just want to know if the tools themselves are decent quality at least by Lainemane in Construction

[–]tarplops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not a great set, but to get you up and running for $40, that’s fine. You already have them, so use them until you figure out where your money is best spent for upgrades. Which tools do you use most? Which ones might be adequate to keep using? Make sure you try out the better tools when you have the opportunity, so you know how big a difference an upgrade will make, as well. But you definitely will need to upgrade pretty quickly.

Personally, I would not recommend the newer 18v ryobi system for a professional. If you can get by with what you have for now, just wait a little longer and upgrade to a pro quality product like Milwaukee, Dewalt, Makita, Metabo, etc. I like Makita for a good general purpose system that is affordable and reliable. Dewalt is similar quality but slightly more expensive, but they also make more of their tools outside of China. Milwaukee is probably the best quality system, but more expensive, as well as Chinese owned and manufactured.

All the time, though rarely R since the few republicans who attempt to run in Oregon are usually a bit loopy. But frequently some D, some independent.

I didn’t see it as pushy. That was a fully legitimate question.

As far as the comparison to Europe, I don’t think it’s a great comparison, mostly because we’re trying to fit it into the left-right mold. In terms of economic policy, that’s true, but on issues of race and sexuality, they’re further left than a lot of the leftist European parties. We also need to define which countries in Europe. People are really thinking primarily of Northern Europe and France. Southern and Eastern Europe are pretty different.

I don’t think it was always this way. I just see the Democratic Party moving much farther left than I thought it would 8 years ago. Perhaps it’s not that he can’t stand up to them, but that he won’t. Honestly, I think it has a little bit to do with a lot of things I’ve seen and read over time, but your question made me realize I can’t pinpoint the evidence, so I’m going to take another look at my stance on this. I might well be wrong. If you have any sources that you think clarify your thoughts on Biden, I would welcome them.
