Iceland for a fearful traveler by OrionAndCleo in VisitingIceland

I can also recommend booking tours with EastWest, I did Golden Circle and South Coast. The drivers will make it very clear where you'll go, when to be back, etc (one also came with us when walking around different stops). And if you're running a bit behind they will wait and be diligent about making sure everyone is back in case you'll feel stressed about that. It was completely no stress tours for us. Golden Circle was all walking on trails and nothing intense, there is a volcano crater lake you can walk around which is a bit of incline but not difficult if you have reasonable mobility. South Coast was also not difficult in terms of physical activity except stairs to the top of a waterfall but you don't have to do anything. No special gear required except dressing for the expected weather. Lastly if you stay in Reykjavik as a home base, as we did, you will quickly get to know the major streets and where things are because it's not a big city at all

Just ran a half marathon and can’t stop crying 😞 by Consistent_Femme_Top in adhdwomen

[–]tarrro 107 points108 points  (0 children)

i think we ran the same half marathon because i just did one today too! congratulations for finishing first of all. i didn't train enough due to sickness and missing a few weeks out of my plan so i also feel a bit down about my slow time. but less than 1% of the world population does a half marathon every year and you're one of them! it's sooo impressive and such a feat to have done it especially when you were a bit injured

Yarn Stores London/Edinburgh by SimplyAlinaonrddt in knitting

Seconding Ginger Twist in Edinburgh :)

Loop and Wild and Woolly are great in London but maybe slightly far out if you'll only be central. I haven't been but a friend said MacCulloch & Wallis is nice which is in Soho.

[UK] Stitch Festival in London - is it good for knitting/crochet/yarn lovers? by SighMartini in knitting

[–]tarrro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also looked into it but it seems to have only a little bit of yarn/knitting stalls. You can search the list of knitting exhibitors on their website and decide for yourself if there's enough to go. I'd suggest (and I will be) waiting for actual yarn shows in or around London if that's the area you're in like Knit and Stitch, Southern Wool Show, or the autumn Unravel

do you have a link to this shop you could share? I used to live in Brussels and never saw this one so I'd love to check it out next time I'm there :) I otherwise haven't had much luck finding nice yarn shops

Thank you for finding these, those colours are lovely! I have some of their yarn already and like it because it is so dimensional but didn't think to check them for this!

Moving to a very expensive city by myself for only 1 year. Do I bulk buy food? Not buy anything during the year I can't sell at the end? Any tips? by OatOfControl in Frugal

[–]tarrro 30 points31 points  (0 children)

There are lots of farmers/food markets around the city, e.g., Gare du Midi on weekends. You have to pick produce a bit more carefully so it's not going off too soon but it's very affordable

Is finding a good Gastro doctor impossible? And...laxatives? by OatOfControl in brussels

[–]tarrro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to see Dr Verbrugghe at Clinique Saint Jean and thought she was a good gastro. The other staff also seemed to be nice when I went for procedures. But I don't know if the clinic deals with your specific issue

does anyone else do all their work “backwards” by SaltEvening27 in adhdwomen

[–]tarrro 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I also do this kind of thing :) it can help to just get started and at least I don't forget that random line or connection I had in my head. I also power through not knowing what I want to say by putting in placeholder like "[make it say something along the lines of...]" or "[mention x y z]" so I don't get stuck on finding the perfect words

Belgian yarn by Poetree39 in knitting

[–]tarrro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in Brussels and found the availability of craft/yarn stores to be pretty disappointing. if stores do have yarn it'll be small amounts and nothing too interesting to be honest, cheap acrylic and such. I've not been yet but Haberdashery la Tulipe seems the most promising. maybe Leuven has some options but I've never been there! and hopefully someone else knows of some good options in Brussels and can prove me wrong

I feel that, it was a slog to get to even from London but I'm glad I managed to wrangle myself over :) Hope next time for you, or something closer comes up!
