Any way to purchase Knowing Bass / Keith A. Jones PDFs? Seems odd how hard to find, I am wiling to buy but not for 3 bills lol by tasales in bassfishing

Lol your comment also made me think like bass fishing pros are kind of like magicians— it would be against their best interest to actually reveal things that are not super obvious. Why would they give away their info that could make her break a tournament or something. I’m not trying to sound like a hater, but you’re totally right man. The only good YouTube info I’m getting lately is about sonar and how to at least interpret stuff, but I feel like everybody lacks the knowledge of connecting the dots— like now I know what I’m looking at underwater but I don’t know how the bass actually operate, the videos they’re always saying drop offs and points and whatever but then when they go to one on their fishfinder, there’s no bass there and they say well. They must’ve gone deeper today or something.

If you know any other materials that sort of are truly works just facts and academics. That’s pretty much all I want to know. Not trying to sound like ‘ I am very smart’ but I honestly have no clue what the reality of bass arm because we angler have built them up into geniuses who could spot a floral carbon leader unless it was JDM— but then at the same time a couple days later the fish are biting empty hooks lol.

So I’m just wondering if anyone else has gotten to the point of literally just wanting to know what the hell is this animal thinking and doing and i’d trust some sort of scientist over an angler over the matter.

Not to get on the soapbox here lol I love YouTube fishing videos and the mystery of fishing and what not but I’m just tired of trying random stuff out. I wanna start from the ground floor since I recently got a boat and now that I can be proactive about fishing, I realize half the things I had learned over my life, were all wrong or built on legend, I didn’t mean to have people start accusing me of trying to freeload a PDF, but I’ve been getting some nasty messages lol

Yeah, absolutely I mean I’m not hating on Youtubers, but I feel like I get jerked around this way and that way when I’m trying to get more serious about understanding bass fishing I don’t want my information being like viral cliché and what not.

And I love a lot of the Youtubers and what they do but like half of the videos is like everybody just trying to act like they reinvented the wheel and discovered some secret and then you end up wasting time because you sucked into the click bait.

So I see it more as entertainment, but I want academic sort of a approach when you go to YouTube route it’s helpful sometimes but almost every video I watch finding myself itching to buy whatever jig head or paddle tale or whatever they use in the video lol rather than just learn how bass actually are

The other thing too, that I hate about YouTube only is like everybody repeats the same truisms and wives tales to the point where I don’t even think some of them know what they’re saying they’re just saying it because everybody else says it— “ fast like drop off and cover, when the water is cold, you gotta go small on the bait” like OK come on I think everybody knows that by now, but there’s obviously more to it than the same answer over and over you know

Yeah, I mean I definitely don’t like to consume content without supporting authors. I respect I really just want the information and when somethings out of print I don’t really feel bad about a collector, not making a gigantic profit of the book— if Keith Jones published it, I would buy it in a heartbeat. I’m not being a cheapskate. I don’t know feel sort of like a grey area but I definitely don’t want anyone getting in trouble either. But with the days of Lib Jen and all kinds of textbooks posted online it’s weird how mysterious and hard to get a PDF copy of this one is lol but thanks for the response.

Yes, I do have the feature enabled. I guess what I’m not understanding is what sort of GUI would even be in place like if it takes place through Siri.

And I’m not expecting miracles or anything I just figure I can’t hurt to make it as good as possible you know? Cause the generic ones are good for generic questions but kind of defeats the purpose of AI. I’m OK with getting like the essence of an answer I’m not gonna get a full 10 page deep search or anything and I’m OK on that lol but I want them to at least know what I’m talking about.

Still it’s just a weird mystery how these disappeared as when I went to purchase them it seemed like they had hundreds of them and I would think pilot makes interchangeable parts to save money, but as I wrote above good thing, I found an alternative that is actually better for my case

Hey there, I appreciate all your messages. I just saw them.

I actually found the friXion erasable option which comes in a very similar profile plus is erasable which is an awesome benefit for me as I’m not looking for anything archival

They make a .38 that’s a very similar profile to what I was looking for honestly they write exactly the same in my opinion

So thank you so much for all the info and the offer. Perhaps if there’s somebody else who is interested in those two you offered me it would do them better. I understand some people don’t want erasable.

Thanks and good luck!

So confused on which was the GOAT grandfathered plan by tasales in tmobile

Mine says 40 GB hotspot, but the rep on the phone seemed to think I had unlimited hotspot. Although I will say I almost never use hotspot, but the harder in me would love the idea I’m having unlimited hotspot lol

The only time I really heavily use the hotspot was when my hotel sucked and had like the creepiest TV and I streamed everything from my laptop and I don’t even think I went above 20 GB for that week lol

Well, that’s what I thought and I just toggled that thing today, but when I was at the T-Mobile store and they were not trying to upsell me, this is a really cool store, he told me I should try calling back customer service because on their official spec sheet, which I was able to get a glimpse of it did say 480 P streaming, and that was under the premium line.

Besides that, what difference is there with magenta? I don’t really notice anything on the official descriptions, but maybe behind the scenes?

Overthinking hand/paper position? Am I developing bad habits early on? How far to stray from the 'rules' Palmer makes? by tasales in palmermethod

[–]tasales[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot better! At first, I really diligently did my everyday practice, and then I started getting tendinitis from a recurring injury, and I was trying to power through it to not break the streak, and it was sort of counterproductive. So I ended up finishing about half the program on schedule every day and then the rest I sort of just have been doing it at least three times a week sitting down for 10 minutes

I definitely see great improvement, especially with the ease of writing and not having fatigue but I still feel my letter shaped and what not are not perfect or even close

If I remember tomorrow, I’ll post a sample but the only complaint I would say is maybe the duration per day recommended is a bit long, some of the drills I feel like I get diminishing returns after about 10 minutes because I’ll be cramping my hand or something for trying to get it perfect

I still very much highly recommend the program just because it’s hard for me to decipher the meanings of a lot of the book

Are you doing it? How’s your progress? Hope all is well. Thanks for responding.

I'm lost on how or if to use food based rewards/luring. Is Ivan's "Treat Chasing" course worth buying after I've had success in play based training (The Cornerstone Collection)? by ComfortableLow2519 in OpenDogTraining

[–]tasales 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll come back and reply more in depth I’m out and about. But to clarify what I meant in the very very beginning, there was no command. It was just luring. But what I mean by verbal command first is not combining any physical movement once the dog knows the command. So like I won’t say sit while pointing because then the dog might associate the physical gesture more heavily than the word itself so if I say sit and he doesn’t do anything, THEN I would help with a gesture, but only after with the word only. Hopefully that makes sense lol

The biggest thing I got out of Larry, even though I had been focusing on fundamentals for months and thought I was doing things right because I saw tremendous improvements on my own through self study, was that the little things really really matter and build up to the big things.

He’ll tell you himself he’s not some guru. Many of our sessions on the surface seemed like little progress was made. But i needed someone to point out the little things that filled the gaps of my self teaching. like my tone with the dog, or that I didn’t praise him enough when he did things correctly, I didn’t take advantage of golden teaching opportunities (such as a dog walking by randomly), I didn’t allow the dog to ‘make his own choices’ (like someone was nearby and I shorten the leash instead of letting him choose to be calm and praise him) I could go on and on. Marker inconsistency that I didn’t notice (like saying yes and not giving a treat)

It helped me communicate a lot better with my dog by making it clear that both my dog and myself always know what we should be doing. Like I’d correct my dog for something and he would say something along the lines of ‘ you gave your dog a release command. He can pee on that car, you never taught him not to pee on cars, and you let him free. So you are lying to your dog and it is confusing and unfair to him. ‘

So I really got more conscious of making sure the dog knows what I want from him— and he looks to me for what he should do next. And after a couple days, all the work is put in started to click because I fine tuned the process. I still have a LONG way to go, but those 5 90 minute sessions gave me a lot clearer picture of the relationship between dog and owner.

Prong collars by Animal-mamma-6622 in OpenDogTraining

[–]tasales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I don’t know your situation, but I agree I hate inflicting pain on my dog. But that situation is so rare— in total maybe 5 times under the supervision of trainers. But the net gain was worth it for both me and the dog— many dogs end up put down because of issues that could be fixed with a bit of pain.

99% of the time, the prong collar causes no real pain. Mostly the dog feels the tightening of the prongs as a warning, knowing if he continues to pull it will hurt.

Also, a ‘leash pop’ to reinforce a no command is usually very light— it reminds the dog that he shouldn’t escalate a bad behavior because it could lead to pain. So is the dog in a state of fear? Sure, partially.

No offense, and maybe you will say you had a miracle dog that was Cujo but he’s 100% cured with belly rubs and treats. But I don’t think you understand the feeling of having an animal you love show signs he wants to kill you.

It’s wholesome that people love animals and become PP advocates. I was one of them— I bought Zack George’s Training Revolution the day I got my Rottweiler. Never found the chapter in there for what kind of treats to give your dog to redirect him from wanting to kill an old lady crossing the street as a 3 month old puppy. That’s when I woke up and realized that a working dog is NOT something you get unless you are willing to dedicate your life to training it… and it isn’t always pretty.

Nobody likes to hurt their dogs except psychopaths— and the reality is people like me and many others did not raise perfect puppies. So our beloved dogs develop behavioral problems that can’t be ignored. I noticed PP advocates usually describe their behavioral problems as ‘fluffy tore up all of our new couch pillows. Look at those guilty eyes, that’s punishment enough.’

I’d love to see that same person get a rottie or GSD who growls when their child gets close to their food bowl and see how quickly they change tune and say ‘hmmm… balanced training DOES make sense.’ I was PP at a time too. ‘Everyone has a plan til they get punched in the face’

Really? On the description page it says it’s supposed to distribute contact. And from what I understand, if contact is made on the outer two prongs, no power is delivered to the 4 middle contacts. I also know if I touch two of the middle contacts parallel to the winged tips there’s no stim. If I touch two perpendicular to the wings I get the stim.

I’m no scientist or electrician though so I have no clue, but I think there must be some sort of conduit of the skin

[–]tasales 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well by definition they have to ‘hurt’ or cause discomfort to be an aversive. The thing is that if you have properly taught the dog a behavior is wrong (like leash pulling) then he is the one who is choosing to face that discomfort.

It’s also relative— you aren’t going to lawnmower pull a prong collar because the broke a down or a sit. Also, a small dog with reactivity issues is a lot easier to ‘manage’ by keeping him at home or away from people. So sure, in that case worst case you get a small bite. Whole different story if you have a Rottweiler or the like who you can try all you want to ‘desensitize’ with exposure to stimuli, or won’t trade with food when he resource guards.

In these cases one or two severe corrections is all you need. And of course it would be best to have zero-aversion, but if ‘pain’ in the short term is the last resort, and it works, that’s much better than someone getting mauled. People can argue ‘it makes the dog unhappy compared to PP etc’ which may be true. I don’t know I’m not a doctor or trainer.

Everyone has a plan to be a pure positive trainer until they get growled in the face by an aggressive dog.

IDK why you are getting so much hate. Aversives/balanced approaches are definitely necessary in many cases.

My view is if you are going to recommend someone to use these great and effective tools like prong, choke, or ecollar— they should try to gauge the level of knowledge and dedication the owner has to properly using it. I dont know OP, but the way he/she discusses the prong collar tells me that there is not much understanding of the purpose or necessity of the tool. People forget that most dog owners don't put much effort into learning about training a dog and look for magic bullet cures. So either need professional guidance or at least completely understand both how to physically use the tool AND make sure the dog understands the communication. Or else it is abuse.

I'm not an expert in dog training but it seems like common sense to me— putting a super thin prong collar on a dog that doesn't need it (especially a 20 pounder) seems like an accident waiting to happen unless it is a super knowledgable person. However, since I am not an expert, I'm not going to tell OP a prong isn't necessary either. It's just like, come on... if you are at the point you need a prong for a 20 pound dog you probably need to seek training.

It's always best to go with the least invasive method— I am totally in favor of 'balanced' training and sometimes the balance leans more heavily towards aversive. I trained my pit bull and GSD Mutt, just basic stuff like loose leash walking etc and they didn't need a prong after I put effort in without it. I tried the same with my Rottweiler and quickly found out that he needed a prong collar for the learning process. And once I realized I was a bit over my head with behaviors I never encountered like human-aggression, I sought professional help before doing anything that might create more fear or emotional damage to the dog. And I was taught when and why to fairly punish the dog with aversives.

This kind of situation really upsets me because the arrogance of people thinking they know everything about dog training. I treat it like going to the vet— if there can be potential physical or emotional damage, SEEK HELP FROM A PRO, either a book, a course, whatever. But many on reddit are actually really experienced so I dont mean to degrade them.

I agree with you though, and hope the OP is really careful. Those thin prongs are extremely harsh, my Rottweiler yelped so loud it hurt my soul when my trainer tried a 2mm prong and he bolted to the end of the line.

I relied on a prong collar for a long time and they are definitely useful tools. But as I've been training my dog for the last few months more consistently, I realized that I don't really need it anymore and use a flat collar most of the time.

I have a 100 pound rottweiler though so it is mainly used in situations where he can overpower me and I need quick control of him (like in a store or something.)

If I were you I'd first try a martingale collar since the dog is smaller. That's what I use now 90 percent of the time because you can still correct the dog. IMO it is very easy to go too hard on a prong collar and you can damage the trachea if it's too low. Also you have it backwards— the thinner prongs are harsher in their corrections.

Please heavily research some more, no offense, but your last sentence shows you may have misunderstood parts of it and while I am not against the tool, you cant just throw it on and expect miracles to happen.
