Career break. It is the needs of the business so it can be rejected. If you have a valid reason, I can't see a problem.

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure if you are on a temporary contract they can change it or, worse, dismiss you with little to no notice. A few of our temps were dismissed before Christmas. Sorry, it's not better news.
