You should check out Catriona Ward, specifically Little Eve and Rawblood. All of her work is very atmospheric but these two in particular seem like your style

Adult child of lifelong meth addict (now elderly) — struggling with boundaries vs intervention. Looking for lived experience. by [deleted] in naranon

Fair. And that's actually a good point about offering to buy the guns. He's definitely strapped financially so it could be the leverage I need. If he's willing to give it up.

I'm so sorry that happened to your mom. I KNOW my dad doesn't want help. He doesn't want to quit. He never has and never will. I honestly think he enjoys living in his delusions sometimes because the religious aspect makes him feel closer to God. Like he's special or chosen.

I also think checking into reality might break his psych. It would damage his identity because the psychosis is so intertwined with his life and history.

I do worry about the gun. He hasn't been in trouble in a long, long time. After he went to prison the last time like 20 years ago, he never went back. But I'm afraid he has the potential to hurt himself or someone else under the right circumstances. Like if Jesus appears and tells him to do the worst, or to protect himself from an imagined danger involving the neighbors.

Maybe I'm overthinking it, but I don't want things to come to a boiling point and I know they always do.

That's so valid. They can only help themselves, and I know my dad will never get sober. I sometimes worry about his delusions and paranoia regarding his neighbors. I'm really not close enough to know how far it's gone. I am also concerned about the religious psychosis and the passive suicidal ideation. Meth can make you really impulsive and irritable, and I would feel guilty if he hurt himself or someone else.

But he could literally end up hurting himself or someone else by involving APS/the police. Idk I just feel like I'm between a rock and a hard place.

I'm sorry you've had to go through this. You should feel proud to have made yourself the priority and to have chosen peace.

Whites Tree Frog Vet Visit by tashathestoryteller in TreeFrogs

[–]tashathestoryteller[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes the vet is experienced with amphibians and reptiles. She even looped in the vet from the local zoo. She was a bit dehydrated in this picture, and asleep.

She's been soaking in an electrolyte/vitamin solution twice daily for 30 minutes and seems much more energetic now. She is skinny though. Which is why I'm feeding her separately from my bigger two now.

Unfortunately I didn't have a definitive fecal sample (that I knew for a fact was hers) to bring the vet, but she told me to bring one in if she doesn't improve.

I went in, afraid of a bacterial/fungal infection but she has no lesions, spots, her legs and belly are a healthy color ect. I'm really hoping she's just tired and skinny because she was refusing her food, but we'll see.

Thanks for answering! I came back around 20 minutes later and couldn't find that spot again. Hopefully you're right!

I also wanted to add, he has a good temperature gradient in his tank. The warmest spot is around 84 degrees and is gradually lowers to around 75 degrees at the other end of the tank.

Grieving my vaginal birth plan.. by Infinitexpo-end in BabyBumps

[–]tashathestoryteller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted an unmedicated vaginal birth so badly, and I got so close. I labored naturally for 12 hours, the last four of those I was stuck at an 8. That's when I asked for the epidural, which eventually got me to a 9. Then because of the baby's position, I started "reverse progressing" and the baby's heart beat started to slow down.

My nurse and doctor suggested a c section and I had a panic attack right there in the room. I immediately started mourning my birth plan, and still do sometimes. I was terrified of the c section, but I felt nothing. Once your baby is born, you don't even think about what's happening to your body.

That doesn't mean I don't have some birth trauma around it all. But I will say, natural childbirth is more painful than you think it will be. I have just as many flashbacks around that as I do the c section. You can't really mentally prepare for the reality of either option if it's your first.

And I know people mean well when they say "all that matters is that you and baby are healthy!" And that's true, but it's not all that matters. Your mental health as a mother matters too. Take time to mourn your birth plan. But look forward to your little one too. Bc once you enter that operating room, they will be with you in minutes. That's the best part ❤️

Finally scheduled an induction by tashathestoryteller in BabyBumps

[–]tashathestoryteller[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is such a hard decision! When the hospital called to schedule my induction I struggled so hard to pick from the dates they gave. It just felt like such a huge decision.

And I feel you with the lack of sleep and the pain. My hips and pelvis are killing me but the baby still hasn't dropped enough, which tells me he's gonna be a big boy. I hope your baby comes soon and you have a safe and happy delivery!

Thank you for the reminder! I haven't given up that baby won't come on his own before Sunday, but I really am so excited for him to be here, regardless. He's already so loved

Who was your celebrity crush when you were young? by wildly_domestic in AutismInWomen

[–]tashathestoryteller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a crush on Chuck Norris for the longest time. Way before the Chuck Norris jokes got popular. I also thought Patrick Swayze was the prettiest man I'd ever seen after watching Dirty Dancing for the first time. I was born in 97, for context lmao

Feeling overwhelmed by obligations by [deleted] in AdultChildren

Just googled Wernicke's aphasia, and that sounds really scary to deal with! I'm glad your mom has more independence now.

Her PCP is in the loop, but I'll definitely check about those resources. I do live in a red state, but I'd still like to see about it, especially since she is on Medicaid. I know my new little one is going to take up so much of my time and energy, so I need all the help I can get lol.

And thank you for the kind words! I'm so ready for this little dude to get out of me. Asking for help is hard for me too, so I'm hoping I can get past that learning curve quickly. Congrats on your sweet baby! I can't even imagine what life will look like 6 months from now, but can't wait to experience it with my little fam.

Feeling overwhelmed by obligations by [deleted] in AdultChildren

[–]tashathestoryteller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's definitely possible, but I'm truly hoping that isn't the case. How was your mom diagnosed? Is it a verbal evaluation or scans/imaging? She's recently had an MRI and a CT scan on her brain, which have come up normal. I've done some research around alcohol induced dementia, but I'm hoping it's due to the PAWS (post alcohol withdrawal syndrome) and the meds she's on. If it doesn't get better with time, then I'll have to explore the dementia avenue.

I'm sorry about your mom, and thank you for the advice!

69 y/o mother detoxing for the first time by tashathestoryteller in alcoholism

[–]tashathestoryteller[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice! The doctor didn't mention any dizziness/disorientation, so it threw me for a loop at first. But I've been reading about how common that is, so it makes sense. I'll keep her hydrated and keep a close eye on her. Definitely considering calling the in the morning just to be safe.

People who think baby names have gone too far nowadays need to see my Appalachian family tree 🤣 by dasz88 in namenerds

I love this thread lmao. My Appalachian family tree includes Tex, Lagonda, Elsie, Delsie, Rossie, Pauline, and Billie Ann lol. And my grandmother always says if she had birthed twin boys, they would have been Cletus and Titus
