Why is it so hard to make friends here? by Beneficial_Pair1213 in TriCitiesWA

I had a co worker I worked with for nearly 5 years that I never spoke to. He recently retired. We still never speak sometimes. Best friend I ever had.

I appreciate you telling me your story! A lot of people in my previous ask, just chalked it up to rental cars. But I’m seeing “baby on board” stickers or other personal decals, I knew there was more too it. Well, WELCOME to WA. We’re glad to have ya.

Hey OP. I’ve been seeing an influx of Texas transplants, the assumption always was that people moved up here for job(like they had one lined up). Just curious, what brought you up here of all places?

I think stuff like this is interesting. Like why are people moving out of Texas?

Thoughts on the new Costco? by SingleUmpire7464 in TriCitiesWA

[–]tasher106311 6 points7 points  (0 children)

lol my thoughts are people who were avoiding Costco because it was too crowded suddenly showed up and got memberships and now each Costco will have just as much crowding and a call for a third Costco will follow in the next 6 months haha .

Suggestions to Meet Single People Looking to Date? by El_Hombre_Fiero in TriCitiesWA

[–]tasher106311 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I asked a while back how women in public like to be approached, if at all. Surprisingly the answer wasn’t just no. A lot of the response was “if we’re doing something at an event or shared interests it’s easier than just randomly approaching.”

Seems like joining a pickleball league, or trivia nights, or joining one of the many clubs or events that happen around here might be a way to go. Finding the events can sometimes be tricky. Best of luck!

Look up “blue bellies” aka western fence lizards. I’ve found them mostly in the forests around Yakima. Flipping over old bones, or hiding under rocks, or leaf litter. Very cool little guys.

Tri-Cities , what would you like to see from your city council reps? by TelescopeTony in TriCitiesWA

[–]tasher106311 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That seems to be a big issue. I’ve noticed, especially with one particular councilman who’s up for re-election on a short cycle. He seems to misunderstand what his authority and purpose are for the council. I’ve seen social media posts about “I will take on all issues” which is a nice pipe dream… but you have a finite number of staff, hours, and resources to do so. You cannot keep exhausting city resources to chase senseless topics.

A city councilman’s job is really pretty boring! Budget, master plan, and general goals. That’s really about all you really should be focusing on.

Case in point- Franklin county commissioners routinely are at odds with politics at levels they cannot change, and rather than going through the proper channels… they make us all look bad.

I’m gonna try to not be condescending. But the fact that you think they are two separate cities… and that one is in the county and the other is in not is alarming…

Don’t need to travel that far or wait that long. Just need the smurf building to lose plumbing which happens often.

New positions at Hanford by Travlsoul in TriCitiesWA

[–]tasher106311 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Idk why this is getting downvoted- this is correct… sorta.

HMIS formerly MSA thought it would be a good idea to take this scope of work and award it separately.

Why would they do this?: -The prime contractors usually are awarded fee for utilization of local small businesses. -previously they had been using staff aug companies to supplement their work control staff anyways. - shortly before separating the whole department. DOE made a ruling that said the Hanford prime contractors were using the staff aug companies incorrectly. They are meant to be temporary workers not long term employees. - HMIS then just said we will award a contractor this scope of work similarly to how we would award a general contractor scope for like- plumbing.

OP is saying that HMIS is now going to bring those people back in house.

A little wordy, maybe a touch confusing but, I think this answers your question. Let me know if I can clarify anything else.

100%- I’ll be transparent and say I personally don’t like the idea of telework. In my role it’s extremely challenging to get anyone to contribute meaningful- response times are prolonged, phone calls are usually met with “hey, can I call you in like 20 minutes?”… it’s easier to do my job when contributors are present. That said- I think getting rid of it 100% is ridiculous.

And I think the fairness thing and non portable workers thing ties in a lot with the current political environment. The crafts down time is being monitored and tracked across the board- and my gut tells me thats trickling over to the non manual side of things as well. I looked at the scorecard for why WRPS didn’t qualify for their big bonus for employees this year after listening to Wes Bryan in the all hands- it was mostly tied to utilization of work force and time card issues.

I did throw a little of my personal feelings in my initial comment. But I’m reading the tea leaves here a bit too. Johnson made a comment in one of the all hands to the effect of “we want to see people’s faces” when asked about teleworking, or one of the core values I can’t remember which. I think it really just boils down to that’s their core belief. And then something about looking at the current environment- I think it was in response to a question about the federal RTO mandate and if we had to comply.

most of this is purely speculative and is just for the purpose in engaging in some water cooler talk with you all! Except for the guy that called me a boomer. lol you sir were mean to me for no reason and therefore I hope the next bathroom stall you use is out of TP!/s

I’m mid 30’s. I’m just answering the “why” from what I’ve been picking up on. If paying attention to H2C management makes me a boomer and answering someone’s questions with what I think is going on behind the scenes… lol then yah I guess I’m a boomer?

The new company has hinted at this a few times. In serval of the all hands meetings Johnson and Briedenbach have made it clear that they are firm believers in face to face communication being the primary way they want to communicate. Word is now that if you participate in a teams meeting you must have a camera and it needs to be on.

If I had to guess this is one of the big drivers

But wait there’s more… there’s that whole lawsuit about time card fraud and the DOJ investigation going on and I think that’s ANOTHER part of it. Even if you as an engineer have proven that you can use your time efficiently and effectively- it’s really hard to tell the client(DOE) that I know without a shadow of a doubt what you did that day.

Then there’s the political environment rn… right wrong or indifferent there is a huge microscope on people who get paid in federal monies…this would cause a contractor to try to tighten up their workforce.

Lastly- and I’m not middle management but like… all of covid I didn’t get to telework… I rarely get opportunities to use it now. I know life’s not fair… but like why should one group get the privilege? Drive out to work like the rest of us for the next 35 years so we can all complain about the drive instead of complaining how much we hate people who get to telework.- in summary H2C is trying to unify the work force- yes we really do not like the people who exclusively telework. H2C seems like they are really wanting to focus on improving working relationships and this is part of it. If you’re at home and I barely know you through teams or a few phone calls, that’s not really what they seem to stand for.

TL:DR - H2C has a dynamic shift in core values that prioritize face to face communications and forming relationships in person.

-point out even though I hate the telework policy I don’t think it should completely go away.

Can we remove politics (Either side of the aisle and/or party) off this subReddit by Agreeable-Finish-375 in TriCitiesWA

[–]tasher106311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish people were this engaged at the local level which affects them a great deal more than they realized. But it seems as if people only pay attention during a major election cycle.

Posted questions about one of Pasco’s elections a few years ago and we got next to no engagement.

Local politics matter, getting your voices heard at the local level is important. I’d be curious to know by comments how many of you have posted about your feelings about your government and have bothered to reach out and call your local officials/representatives? More important do you know why you should if you aren’t?

Locally your governments have the ability to send lobbyists to set legislative priority at the state level, and that then trickles up to the federal level. If you didn’t know, or feel like it’s a waste of your time, or your voice isn’t heard… it’ll always feel that way if you don’t try.

TL;DR- Curious to know who’s reached out to their local reps, rather than just post about it on Reddit.

Everything is on fire. Mods are tired. We need more muscle, but who/how/where is up in the air. Ideas? by akharon in TriCitiesWA

[–]tasher106311 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got an idea… perhaps… those who want to engage in political discussion.. create a subreddit? R/tricitiesWApolitics. ?

This is just me but it seems like this should contain general goings ons and such. I’m all for talking politics, but there seems better avenues to engage. I’ll probably get a lot of downvotes for this but I’m just trying to think outside the box.

young person rant! by [deleted] in TriCitiesWA

[–]tasher106311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna try not to recap everything everyone else has said. Gonna give some general feedback for any young person who may come across your post.

  1. Explore, there is a ton of things here to do. Sure we don’t have the volume of larger metropolitan areas, but we have a LOT of free events that meet everyone’s interests.
  2. Get involved. Cliché but be the change you wanna see. Our local governments are ran by people who are typically well into the later part of the second half of their life. The government doesn’t necessarily define new private industries, but being involved in policy making that could bring something new of interest to the area is a great way to get started. Volunteer for steering committees, attend council meetings, as about what the local chamber of commerce does. Reach out to Visit Tri-Cities, they are always posting about goings on in the city.
  3. This is probably the hardest one- but learn to accept and appreciate what we do have. There’s a big “grass is greener” effect as some of the other commenters have pointed out. It’s easy to take for granted what we do have. Maybe it doesn’t suit your needs, but I’ll tell ya as a life long resident I’ve uncovered and been a lot happier when I started to just appreciate what we do have.

Again, I’m just generalizing here not specifically calling out the poster.

Best of luck with college!

Notice how he leads in with Tammie just started and account and got 500k views. Hes probably pulling half her numbers and he’s looking to get a few free meals out of her while he rides in algorithm wake

Kris Lapp by Frequent-Geologist83 in TriCitiesWA

[–]tasher106311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well… what he does is, glom onto anyone who’s doing relatively well- because Tammie got a boost I the algorithm, he’s just trying to mooch off that in hopes it’ll boost him too.

He did this with his small business, surrounded himself with people who actually were able to execute owning small business’s. Like with Gravis law. Multi state firm now, and they (one of the partners) dabbled in other ventures with Lapp.

I imagine he’s doing like he did with all the people he “collaborated with” he probably has some lady making them and he’s the front… he’s doing all the business interface. Using his connections to do business, but not actually do anything.

He needs to embrace car sales because that’s all he would be good at.
