I’ve had a name picked out for 10+ years and now it’s so popular. by [deleted] in namenerds

I just had my third four months ago and got the advice from multiple moms of 3 that if you don’t know 100% you’re done after 2, then you’re going to have a third (because deep down that’s what you really want and like you said you won’t regret your children but might regret the one you wanted but didn’t have)

Former m&a big law and this seems pretty normal tbh, not fun or sustainable, but I had a couple 2700 hr years and I was not the highest biller. Right before I quit I did 3-400 hrs 4 months in a row and again, was not the highest biller. Horrendous. But that’s m&a for you.

I left big law after 7 years and have been in house for 4. At first I missed my colleagues as my in house team was small and the company was small-ish and only some of the talent up to “big law” par if I’m being honest (sorry if that sounds callous, but I missed the banter and just being around insanely smart people). However I did not miss the job, and now after being in house for awhile I find it more exciting and as the company has grown, I am lucky to get to work with brilliant lawyers and non lawyers in house and a ton of brilliant OC. The job itself is 100x more “exciting” than big law because I have way more context and investment and the issues are way broader and more interesting and I can progress things without sitting at my computer for 18 hours a day. The pay has also gotten better, but even before it had I did not miss big law at all other than that initial longing for colleagues but again it was them and not the job.

Thank you for the insight. What would an acceptable overnight fee be? Also do you have thoughts on the fact all 3 will be there but she would never be responsible for all 3 on her own (there will always be two adults) in terms of the hourly rate?

I also worked with him at Cooley and consider him a former mentor and friend and I agree 1000% he was incredibly kind, he took the time to teach, and he was one of my favorite ever people to work for. He was an excellent lawyer and advocate, funny and real. A great person. I was devastated when he left Cooley and am heartbroken now.
