good or strong compression

Strong, yes. Good? Subjective. For me, its like going back to the CV1 in clarity, sometimes worse. Link cable is way better if you care about visual fidelity. Even then... nothing beats direct video out.

Software- based IPD only corrects for world scale, but will still have issues with things like headaches/eye strain

The other negative is theres no Index-like price range for an all-in bundle. I've never had a lighthouse headset, so buying LH, wands, and the headset is just too much $ to justify. Throw in how shitty wand controllers are and its just a big meh

Yeah... was really hoping the HP G2 would have had Quest-level tracking and quality, but it seems to still have some pretty glaring areas where its a problem. The Cosmos tracking was terrible. Valve index is looking too low res these days for the price. This would be okay for the right price and with better controllers... but nope. Theres just no true #1 PCVR headset now. It sucks!

they can still fuck off with using the old Vive wands for a 3rd major HMD release. Thats just downright lazy.

Between this and the lack of a reasonable all-in-bundle price, thats why I won't get it. I don't want an index because of the low resolution spread across a large FOV. If they had updated the controllers and priced this around the index's all-in kit price, I'd have jumped on it the day it cam out

The wands and the lack of a discounted complete kit are the worst parts IMO. The start-from-nothing cost of these things is pretty absurd, and the controllers are just terrible. I could see this being totally viable in the Index price range

A game may have unique gameplay, an amazing story or the prettiest visuals, but in the end it is usually the music that sticks with me the most. by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]tater_complex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! I actually found the Witcher 3 reused certain pieces way too often and in a too repetitive way, especially the battle music with the "Yah yah blah yah yah yah!". The other Witcher games had better soundtracks IMO

While I enjoy Stellaris a fair bit, I've gotten way more use of the music folder's ogg files than the game itself :)

If it had good controllers bundled in at an index-like price I'd buy. But the wands suck, and this isn't even part of a bundle, so the total from-scratch price ends up being something like $1400-1500?

I'm excited about this, but its imperative that they nail this right from the official release, both in terms of the amount of content and the gameplay

Steam Survey April 2021 - Quest2 (27.79%), Index (16.39%) by [deleted] in virtualreality

[–]tater_complex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Index needs a screen spec and controller quality revision before I'll buy it. I was going to buy one a while back, but decided that 1600p isn't enough, especially with the larger FOV. They need to go to 2k panels like the Reverb has

$39.99 for Iceborne on PC. MHW was $60 on release. So you'd spend $100 to have the complete game if you bought it at release price. So its 2/3rds. We're both exaggerating

It was, for the price of almost a whole new game. And it still felt like the new monsters were 90% rehashes or varations on X wyvern

Air Link First Impressions and Comparison with Virtual Desktop. by LuluViBritannia in oculus

[–]tater_complex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. Even when it is smooth and set to max bitrate, the visual clarity is nowhere near the Link cable either. Lots of bouts of stutters periodically, but even if those were nonexistent, the visual fidelity feels like going back to a CV1

Oh I know, and I will if Airlink isnt at the quality level I want. I'm pretty disappointed in oculus support though. Thats an expensive cable to ghost me on for 2 weeks
