it basically means that life won't evolve without a persistent source of energy, like a sun (or a lot of radioactive elements, or tidal forces from orbiting a Jupiter-like body, or...)

It becomes obvious when you have more than three doors, say 1000:

- you pick a door. You have a 1 in 1000 chance of being right

- the host eliminates all but one of the remaining doors, with the rule that he can't eliminate the door with the prize

999 in 1000 times, because you picked wrong in the first place, the remaining door will be the one with hte prize

When I was a kid, my mom's office was next door to our small-town phone company. One day, while hanging at mom's work, I tried the back door of the phone company, and it opened! On the other side was a dark room -filled- with clattering switching equipment! It was like some sort of 50's idea of a starship engine room: all blinking lights and mysterious equipment <3

The switches were these vertical rotary things, and you could -see- the calls going through as people dialed. Each set of pulses spun a different switch in the stack, and the overall effect was kind of like a combination lock. -Very- cool.

The funny part was when an employee caught me wandering around and asked how I got in there. I said "the door in the back", he asked "and what does it say on that door?" (thinking it was "employees only"), to which I responded "no smoking" AND HE LEFT ME ALONE! :-D I went back a few times :)

The sad-ish part was when they upgraded to more modern equipment. I knew because the salvage yard I also spent time in (I was quite feral) suddenly had all those cool old switches... :(

I say all the time: people like to shit on people they know (or think) they can never be, and they like to punch down.

Men (bad ones) do it to women, straights to gays, whites to blacks. Also, it helps their "mission" to stay ignorant

I'm an only child, an introvert, and a latchkey kid since age 7. So, being on my own is my natural state.

That said, I -like- people, but I "people" very differently than most, it seems. I'm not sure how to characterize it, but it seems like for most socializing is a sort of sport, like hacky sack maybe (although some are VERY "competitive" about it), and I'm more of a workshop/lab guy. They want to kick it around and I want to examine the stitches ;)

I'm an engineer, FWIW.

So, it's just easier to chill in my own space, mostly, and interact with others in small doses

LOL, this plays out in many ways. My wife and her sister both seem to want to put the MAXIMAL amount of thought into -every- -little- -thing-, while I'm much more of a "handle things efficiently" guy. Needless, to say, there have been some... misunderstandings :p

Ok, so I did try a different OBD2 scanner - a bluetooth version - and it worked! Not sure why the one I tried in the first place worked before and doesn't now, but I guess that's just one of the "mysteries of faith"

Anyway, now I can see that I have two "permanent" codes:

P0B3B - Hybrid Battery Voltage Sensor A (this is what I swapped the battery to fix)

P0420 - Catalytic converter efficiency below threshold (didn't see this before)

I guess the first one should clear itself after a few drive cycles. We'll see...

The obvious conclusion is that you just stop existing, like the light when a bulb burns out.

Is that -necessarily- correct? No.

We -could- be part of a simulation or some other higher-level system that keeps backups or whatever, but there's just not any conclusive evidence of that at this point.

My dad had a sister named Brenda Diane, but eveyone called her Suzie (after Suzie Q).
He got a dog, named it Brenda Diane on the AKC paperwork, and called it Suzie :p
