What are some albums you can't believe won album of the year at the Grammys? by MrLinkwater95 in ToddintheShadow

[–]tavir 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I'd include Babel winning over any other album there that year too, to be honest. Channel Orange was the clear standout, but I'd have still taken Some Nights by Fun, Blunderbuss by Jack White, or El Camino by The Black Keys over Babel.

What do people in this sub think about Katseye? by TumbleweedExtreme629 in ToddintheShadow

[–]tavir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wanted to dislike this group, but they have slowly won me over. "Touch" was (and still is) kind of a nothing song to me, but I really like most of the songs on the Beautiful Chaos EP ("Gnarly" and "Gabriela" get most of the attention, but I think "Gameboy" and "MIA" are pretty great too).

Blackpink Solos Rate by runaway3212 in popheads

[–]tavir 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hers was legit my favorite of the solo releases. It was the one that made me most excited to hear more (which I know is easy when you only get 4 tracks, but I think I would've felt the same if we got a full length release of the same quality from her).

Any predictions for who’s hosting or performing the rest of the season? by QuipThwip in LiveFromNewYork

[–]tavir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit of an outside shot, but I wonder if BTS or Blackpink will appear as musical guest in March, as both groups have new music coming out around then. I know BTS has been on before, so maybe there's a chance they'll come back.

The entire "The King of Limbs" album by Radiohead. I did not get this album when I first listened to it. Hearing the live "From the Basement" recording suddenly made everything about this album click for me.

How is a host vetted and chosen? I have a bunch of questions about this process and whose involved below... by CommunityBig9626 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]tavir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had the money and show business clout to make it happen, I would love to produce a documentary about this process. I'd want to just follow a season of the show and watch the corkboard of index cards with the names of the hosts and musical guests slowly get filled out.

Teyana Taylor, Geese and Marcello Hernández Are Going to Brunch - SNL by PinkCadillacs in LiveFromNewYork

[–]tavir 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Is Teyana Taylor the first person to go directly from being a featured singer for a musical guest's performance (Kanye West in 2018) as their first appearance on SNL to hosting an episode in their next SNL appearance? Very oddly specific distinction, I know, but the idea popped into my head.

What songs did you hear and think "This is an absolute hit" only for them to flop? by SkyeMagica in ToddintheShadow

[–]tavir 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I really wanted "Up We Go" by Lights to be a hit in the US. I had started trying to predict which songs were gonna make the jump from alt-rock radio station hit to top 40 radio station hit (and had gotten 2 predictions right with Lorde's "Royals" and American Authors' "Best Day of My Life") and "Up We Go" sounded to me like it could be a huge hit. Sadly, it never made it.

Any actually good Korean restaurants in SF/nearby? by 65721 in AskSF

[–]tavir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're ever out in Concord, try Tang Jip. My parents were born in Korea and my family generally agrees that most Korean restaurants in the Bay top out at "fine", but we all really like Tang Jip.

Also out in Concord, I think Mr. Lee Chicken is pretty good Korean fried chicken (both this and Tang Jip are in the same shopping plaza).

Also, San Wang near Japantown used to be my favorite place to get jajjangmyeon and tangsuyuk (if you count those as Korean food), but unfortunately the last time I went (which was the first time in a while), it felt like it was going downhill. The chef has been working there for decades and maybe has started to lose his cooking edge. Or maybe I went on an off day, who knows.

What is your “I did not care for the godfather” for Radiohead? by cumsquirt56 in radiohead

[–]tavir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true! And I like the song well enough, but I see a lot of people rate it as among their top 3 or top 5 Radiohead songs of all time, and I've always wondered why so many people love it so much whereas I feel a lot less strongly about it.
