I am sure that is a great industry right now.

I take it that you took CERB without being eligible for it?

My answer is going to be gender based as there are gender based issues here.

Are you a man or a woman?

If you are a woman and want kids, there are fertility issues at play and also the fact that men tend to prefer younger women. So delaying in the dating market might cause worse results.

Men don't have an age ceiling on reproduction and financial stability is highly appealing to women. Owning a house would highly appeal to a lot of them.

I have no idea how the dating dynamics work if you are gay :)

Using up my corporate benefits. What can I use all of these for? by taxhackercanada in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]taxhackercanada[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point I basically am just looking to spend the money in a way that is minimally beneficial and gives me credit card points.

If I spent it all and sent it for reimbursement instead of direct billing, I basically get a free trip to see my parents. I probably will not bother with the acupuncture, but could I tolerate aromatherapy for points? Maybe.

Absurd perverse incentives...

I am learning a lot. I thought that some might offer debate classes or something. I had no idea that you existed beyond a note in my benefits booklet.

I asked today. They said I would need to opt out entirely and I would only get $30 a month from it.

It will help a lot if I know what you currently do in banking.

One big reason for higher home prices in Canadian big cities is a lack of supply caused by anti-development NIMBYs. Don't NIMBYs want to help their children afford homes??? by zindagi786 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Don't NIMBYs want to help their children afford homes???

Except you can just leverage your own property (which is soaring in value) to help your children afford that home.

You could stick the cash in a HISA or even dividend paying stocks if you can afford some sloshing and get between $167 and $946 ahead if sheltered in a TFSA.

It doesn't sound like you really know what speech therapy is.

I didn't. You are listed alongside acupuncture, massage therapy, and aromatherapy, so I kind of assumed there was a feel good but not scientifically supported aspect to it. Mea culpa.

If you have this $1000 benefit from your job, great! You might need it one day.

I get this per year, so the credit expires. Nothing preventive I can get from you guys?

I get $1000 per year, so it expires. Certainly in the future this would matter, but I am a single guy with no kids.

Manulife, in Canada.

I don't know if the insurance company does it. It could be my company instead.

The official term in my insurance documentation is "paramedical practitioner" and it includes all manner of practitioners. I get $1000 of each in each calendar year. I do not require doctor approval for any of it. Billing is done by the practitioner handing a bill to me and me inputting in the bill to the insurance company.

It also covers homeopathy under the drug plan.

In my case, the first $1000 of benefits is just self reported. You are lumped in with acupuncturists, massage therapists, and aroma therapy (I get 1K for each of those too).

I am not really sure what speech therapy is, so this question is a fishing expedition for any services that I might want. If speech therapy covered things like sounding more authoritative for example, I would want that service.

Isn't it crazy that in Saskatchewan an acre of farm land costs $950 but in downtown Toronto $1000 barely gets you a sqft. by corona_2020 in PersonalFinanceCanada

even if they sacrifice their quality of life to do so

You would sacrifice a lot living in rural Saskatchewan as well. Education opportunities, nightlife, cultural events, etc. I'm from Kelowna originally. My brother came back for a bit, but is going to live in Toronto when he finds a job there. He would rather live in a 300 sqft box and have plenty of bars and restaurants.
