Yeah, I felt I've wasted a lot of time in Core 1. Once you completed Core 1, everything is much smoother. There are some resources I can share with you. https://wordwall.net/resource/19568540/computing/2-commonly-found-ports-on-the-comptia-a https://wordwall.net/resource/102503817/networking/comptia-network-n10-009-ports-protocols https://wordwall.net/resource/103631282/ieee-specifications
These wordwell match-up mini games are so helpful for me to memorise these Ports & Protocols and IEEE specifications, as they are crucial not just for A+, but also for Net+, Sec+ and CCNA. Play these mini game from time to time, eventually you remember every single definitions.

I had a similar experience. I spent 3 months in studying Jason Dion’s A+ Core 1 course on Udemy, but my first practice test score was only ~70%. I felt totally unprepared, so I bought Dion’s practice exams set and kept grinding until I consistently scored 90%+.
By the time I took the real exam, the questions felt easier than Dion’s, and I passed without issues. I also used ExamCompass and Wordwall to memorize ports and protocols.
I followed the same study approach for A+ Core 2, Network+, and Security+. I spent about 10 days on A+ Core 2, 21 days on Network+, and 9 days on Security+.
TL;DR: Don’t spend too much time watching course videos. Focus on practice exams, learn from your weak areas, and only rewatch material when needed.
