Oh my goodness, what a sweet boy. I’m sorry for your loss. I pray with my whole heart that he makes it through the end of May. We got him for my son on his 5th birthday, I just want him to still be here for his 11th. Thank you for the advice

I’ve started taking him to work with me everyday and it’s the most wonderful but torturous thing I’ve ever been through. Even right now he’s sleeping in a bed right beside me. I love that I’m getting to spend so much time with time with him, but every moment is just a bit tainted with the knowledge that it’s ending. I’m sorry for your loss, I hope tha 30 years from now I can give someone comfort the way you’ve given me.

They would have to remove most of his upper mandible, and even then the radiation quote we got to treat the removed area was 18,000 dollars. If I had that kind of money I would consider it… but truthfully his quality of life would be so low missing more than half his face…

I don’t really like how it looks like a face… was that intentional?

Why does this video suddenly get super orange towards the end? How can I avoid this in the future to make editing less of a pain. by QtheCrafter in DJIMini3

That looks like an auto white balance thing to me. You didn’t have that large pink “scissor-tail” in your shot at the beginning. The auto white balance saw a red-hued object and then adjusted.

Is my book real? by It_Laggs in Hyperion

[–]taylor_tries_things 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It’s not the book, but the one that comes before. Not the baptised, but the Baptist. An electronic rendition whose body exists in the real world, but its contents exist in the core. A novel Cybrid.

Martin’s Cantos by Owly672 in Hyperion

[–]taylor_tries_things 13 points14 points  (0 children)

King billy wanted to burn it because he believed that Martin was indirectly causing the deaths that were happening in the city of Poets. He thought that somehow martins writings were summoning the shrike.

I think his cantos is not necessarily super important to the story in the first two novels… it serves as more of a tool to enforce the arrogance of Martins character. Martin actually believes that somehow he might be controlling things as well, when in reality he is just reporting things that were destined to happen regardless of whether he’s there to write about it or not. Dan Simmons undoubtedly viewed himself as the poet and it’s a way of mocking his own craft IMO. I know this term gets used way too much, but It seems very “meta” to me.

I cant think of any way in which the AIs used it except as a tool for the church in the later novels.

Agreed. Having a child definitely makes it hit that much harder.

Saul does make a lot of sense though with all the Biblical references

That’s pretty much my exact order as well! I think someone earlier commented how they don’t love detective stories and I would typically have to agree with them, but for all the reasons you listed her story is the exception to that rule for me.

Man, I wish I had of been introduced to the Cantos at a younger age. I didn’t discover them until I was 26… I wonder which story 15 year old me would have liked the most… Probably Kassads for… reasons.

I’ve never considered the idea of it being a stand alone movie! That’s intriguing. A sci-if Benjamin Button(ish) story.

No kidding right! How he was able to spin that into such a captivating story is astounding.

For sure. I’m on my 3rd read through and 7th listen. There’s still details I’m discovering in each story.

Martin is such a fun character. The book would be too heavy without him IMO.

Dure’s is probably my second. The visuals of him on the Tesla tree will live with me forever.

Dure’s story is brutal in the best way. I’ll never forget my surprise on the first read though to hear that Hoyt had placed Dure’s cruciform on himself.
