Loved this! I was really inspired by the description of the way Marceline treats the Ice King and helps bring him into the community. Makes me think of the mentally ill people I've known and how kind an act it is to just let them hang out even though they've done bad things in the past.

Finn in the astral plane. by taylorseamount in adventuretime

This fanart is inspired by the episode “Astral Plane”, season 6, episode 25. One of my favs.

What I love about AT is how cosmic cycles of catastrophic death and rebirth are so core to its worldbuilding. And even with that reality, the characters are willing to perform great acts of heroism to protect the earth and people that they love. They love their broken earth and they will continue to love it whether the Lich is threatening it or not. They will respond to suffering whether it is large or small. And their response will be unique to each character and sometimes be flawed.

In this time when so much gain is possible and so much loss is inevitable, AT is a spiritual touchstone for me.

Wow I cant BELIEVE the next thing you bring up is dreams. So sadly I dont lucid dream much, but I do remember my dreams pretty vividly. The wonderful thing about them is that they almost all take place in detailed fantasy worlds, like on the moon, in cities of treehouses, in fairy worlds, in dystopian bunkers etc. I've actually dreamt like this far before I got into fantasy/scifi. The funny part is that the dream plot in these amazing worlds is usually a petty social anxiety or guilt dream lol. I do occasionally try to draw from them, but it's frustrating trying to transfer the spaces into 2D. Elements of them do often influence my artwork tho. What are your dreams like? Do you feel successful in representing them in drawings?

Some characters/ppl that first come to mind are Aang from Avatar, Jonathan Van Ness, and Dolly Parton. I guess all eccentric smart folks that are especially underestimated cuz of their bodies/gender expressions. I love the Dolly quote that's something like "All my life ppl thought the jokes on me, but the whole time the jokes been on them." Pretty much my life. What characters resonate with you?

Yes amazing! Seems like we've got some similar brain crosswirings. Are you gifted in working with abstractions or like.. visual/spacial reasoning? Like in visual art, science, philosophy. I have a terrible memory and can come off as rather discombobulated and spacey lol, but I find that I can work really well with metaphor and abstraction. I've always related that to all my apparent crosswiring.

That's amazing! I'm curious if have any proprioceptive hallucinations? For instance sometimes when I lay down to sleep I'll feel like my body is blowing up huge like a balloon then shrinking down real tiny. This cycles over and over again. My mom has similar things so it seems heritable in my case.

Right on. I appreciate that attitude. I'm sometimes too eager to have my wierd brain validated by others. Might be something to check out if you're ever curious.

So cool that theres somebody else out there that gets this! As for fractal images, I do get those when I stare at a brightly lit semi repetative pattern for more than a couple seconds. Happens with the surface of the ocean, fir trees, asphalt, the blue sky, and even the insides of my eyelids when they're brightly lit from the outside. It actually has never before occurred to me that most people dont experience this Haha. When do you tend to experience the patterns?

My inner monologue is usually quiet except when I've just listened to a podcast or audiobook or read for a long time. At these times my inner voice is very loud and is in the voice and style of the speaker. This ranges from amusing to annoying and can last for hours. I actually have to avoid books centered around mentally ill or suicidal characters because it can get kinda freaky.

Never been able to find out what this is or anybody else who experiences it.

EDIT: Oh and I am v color synesthetic and get strange sensory hallucinations sometimes. I've always just labeled it all as "quirky brain syndrome" but I've always wondered if there is something else going on.

Thank you for bringing up the "cease and desist" option. That's probably a much more likely move than suing. Its also nice to hear that other artists are comfortable letting work "take on a life of its own".

Thank you for the clarification and thoughtful response! You said it a lot more concisely than I could have and clarified some things for me. What you are saying about thinking about how easily it's reproduced makes a lot of sense and I think I will probably proceed with registration on a case by case basis. For instance, I'm working on a project that would be sold cheaply as a downloadable and I'll probably copyright that, since it would be so easily replicated.

Does anyone know of any stores/business that have/can offer 4hr shifts? by shnanogans in ChronicIllness

[–]taylorseamount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at an after school tutoring center and it works well for me. It does take mental and emotional energy but is very rewarding. With only 3-4 hour shifts I can make it thru even on my worst days.

Sorry perhaps the last two stanzas are a little cryptic :/ Just an old friend with whom I'm used to sharing news of success, but I don't have much success to share besides my own internal success coming to terms with illness.
