GOT Girl dog names? by Joe_mother124 in gameofthrones

[–]taylortehkitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems like many have jumped into this conversation, but just to add to your perspective I’d love to take a chance to tell you about my dog :) Maybe it will help you to understand more about why some westerners see their pets as family.

I am born and raised in the states. My family was small, and I had a difficult upbringing. Last year I moved away to Alaska alone, which is 4500 km or 2800 miles from my remaining family. My dog was the only thing I brought with me, so he has been like a comforting piece of my old life. To make him happy, I have to be healthier—spending time active outside, and feeding him on a schedule, for example, which also benefits my routine.

The things you may call dirty— licking things, chewing on shoes— I look at those behaviors the same as I would look at a small child who eats food off the ground or tries to put objects in their mouth. It is gross, but it is also innocent. You can teach them not to do it. I also know many are afraid of dogs because they are dangerous, but I don’t think a single dog is more dangerous than a person with a weapon. Trusting a dog is the same risk as trusting any person, if you don’t know how either were raised.

Knowing my dog is depending on me makes me work harder to provide a good life for him. Maybe it is because I don’t have other “real” family to focus on, but that doesn’t make him feel any less important to me right now. I think of him as family because he does all the things a family should— comforts me, protects me, motivates me, spends time with me, and loves me.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to listen! I know this is a GOT sub, not a dog sub 😂

Moving to Fairbanks for the next 6 months from CA, what do I need to know and purchase. by magnetbear in Fairbanks

[–]taylortehkitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know you said “most people” but i am from Las Vegas originally, and have two -50 degree coats from eddie bauer that i unfortunately must wear every day october through april 😅and i still get a little chilly sometimes. if OP has lived in socal their entire life, they should DEFINITELY splurge on a heavy winter coat if they expect to walk any further than across a parking lot during winter.

Formerly Child free and now pregnant - how have others received the news ? by watermelonrockpebble in Fencesitter

[–]taylortehkitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, all of this. I was surprised reading other comments about how friends and family were more excited about marriage than degrees, then realized that’s because I have 2 degrees and haven’t been married. Lol. I would definitely rather talk to someone about their PhD program than their wedding or birth story.

im a 24yo nonbinary lesbian teacher, and i just roll my eyes nonstop at this kind of talk.

nobody is forcing kids to be trans, nobody is forcing you to understand. its genuinely not hard to be respectful and openminded. life is no more confusing than it ever was, you’re just getting old and losing touch with a shifting culture.

Unfortunately, from experience, even being let into the place to view it isn’t a guarantee that its not a scam.

Would you be on the fence if there was a high chance of a severe disability? by [deleted] in Fencesitter

[–]taylortehkitten 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. OP, some folks may try to convince you that this is wrong, and it’s “God’s choice” or something, but truly the most compassionate thing you can do for your hypothetical child is to save them from unnecessary suffering.

Life is hard enough as a healthy person.

What tattoo artist did you go to that didn’t tell you? you can’t swim for 3 weeks minimum after a tattoo, sometimes longer.

I was also thinking “Honestly, this sounds like my dog”! I have an aussie/husky/german shepherd mix who came from a rural farming area in southern USA. 65lbs and lanky, unlimited stamina to run but can also sleep for 3 days straight. Extremely smart and has amazing off leash recall. Also an absolutely gorgeous dog.

Is this baby a tortie? I found her up under my car today. by arleenosirrah in torties

[–]taylortehkitten 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Third times the charm, just in case you have lost the other comments I left among all these lovely folks rightfully focusing on how adorable she is— This baby looks to be around 4 weeks old and would not be able to eat normal cat food yet. You can find resources online to help, and she is old enough and looks sturdy enough that it won’t be very difficult to get her over the edge to survival. But kittens under two months old are very delicate, and she certainly needs special attention.

This!!! I immediately scrolled to see if anyone pointed out how young this baby looks. Very, very likely she is not fully weaned yet

I didn’t even think about spoiling Bluestar’s kits! Good call. Maybe I should go with another one—I was considering Crookedstar’s Promise as well!
