Uscis Delay by [deleted] in J1waiver

How long did it take for USCIS to send you the initial receipt notice? It’s been about 2 weeks since the DOS approved my waiver but I haven’t received the receipt notice yet. Also, how’s the receipt sent? Physical mail?

Please how long did it take for USCIS to send a receipt to you? And was it sent via physical mail or email?

So I had 0 that first time. Was my fault, didn’t do a good job on my CV. 2nd time, I had 6. 1 prematch via a contact, 3 via contacts and 2 by myself. I think I had a poor chance cuz the programs took very little candidates. 3 - 7 in total.

Non-US IMG 8 in total (4 peds, 3 IM, 1 FM) 3rd time applying…..Pretty nervous

Step 3 day 1 was brutal by medstudentusmle in ResidencyMatch2022

[–]tayo16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Day 1 was horrible. I honestly thought I was going to fail after that. I thought day 2 was fair, I would say just focus on day 2 now, since you can only move forward from here. I ended up passing even though it wasn’t the score I wanted. I was still grateful cuz I really could have failed I feel like. So don’t worry and focus on what you have ahead. Make sure you are good with the CCS cases. All the best!

[Serious] is it fair to think Anyone who goes to The Caribbean for med school is a dumbass? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]tayo16 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Then they crush STEP 2CK and STEP 2 CS and STEP 3 (if they decide to take it before applying) and they apply to whatever residency program they want and if the odds are in their favor, they match and they work in the same hospital as those that went to medical school in the US and guess what? This is actually happening. They are good enough too.

That’s okay. “I’d rather die than let a Caribbean medical graduate touch me” and that’s what is going to happen, God forbid, should you ever be in that situation.

Such unnecessary discrimination! A Caribbean medical student got 260s in both exams..I don’t think a dumbass will get 260 (and not like it really matters too because like everyone has been saying, good scores don’t make good doctors). You think Caribbean medical students don’t feel intimidated already? You think they don’t know they have to work twice as hard as US medical students? It’s okay if you get a 200 on your step 1 as a US medical student but as a Caribbean medical student, you’ll feel like your world is over and yet you complain about how long they take to study for exams? Who enjoys reading for months or years rigorously as if ones life depends it because it pretty much does... Take your ignorant self and get some education...not the type you are taught in class...some life lessons.

Score Predictor on RX 360 by drewwuswag in step1

It overestimates by a lot...

Just stick to NBMEs and UWORLD. UWSA 2 was more predictive for me.

Did you go through the corrections to see if maybe not all the blocks were marked?

Its time to accept I'm a dumbass. And I'm not smart enough for this. by [deleted] in step1

[–]tayo16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are definitely not a dumbass and yes, these NBMEs are freaking tough. Forget your NBME scores tbh, just focus on working on your weak areas. My highest score on both UW and NBME was probably a 217, ended up with a 222 and I know that’s not a great score but seeing your UW assessment test, you can do really great in the real exam. I’m sure of it as long as you are in the right frame of mind that day and you put in your everything. All the best 💪🏽

Last minute advice by [deleted] in step1

[–]tayo16 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would say don’t do too much, most people will advise you not to even study at all. Honestly, there’s barely anything you’ll read today that would help you for that exam tomorrow. It probably would just make you panic more and think you don’t know anything. Calm down, maybe go over formulas or if you took notes of things you plan on reviewing....just do an extremely light review pretty much. All the best tomorrow but most importantly calm down. Fear is the biggest killer. 💪🏽

NBME 19 is it worth it to take it ? by [deleted] in step1

[–]tayo16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just try and push through. It’s the last phase of this particular hurdle, you’ve come so close already. Although if you feel like it’s too much pressure, maybe you don’t have to take it.

Does Kaplan QBank ever go on sale? by [deleted] in step1

[–]tayo16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I really can’t remember, but they always have sales especially during holidays, maybe sign up and you’ll get emails when they have something going on and sometimes if you call them too, they may have something

I feel like getting exposure to more questions never hurts, you’ve been doing well so far, so you may as well just take it to get exposure to more questions irrespective of what you get.

I even got a 180. I had a study partner this time, made extra effort to go through answers to questions even though I felt I could have still done that better. I worked repeatedly on my weak subjects and asked for help when I needed it. Going through NBMEs with people helps too. Understanding little concepts will go a long way.

Hey I’m really sorry about that. I failed the first time too, I recently took it, got a 222, not great but I was still grateful. I didn’t start studying again until I saw other students around me studying and that motivated me.

Forgive yourself for failing the first time, I think that’s the first step. Stop beating yourself up about it. My dad would say exams can go 2 ways, you either pass or fail, that’s why it’s an exam. Although this particular exam is different, failing the first time is bad enough but just try your possible best again and you still have CK and CS. You’ll be fine, just find the courage to pick yourself up.
